FWB 300s shroud removal horror stories?

I'd really like to get the shroud and muzzle weight off of mine. I've researched and found descriptions of lots of heat and various combinations of vises, channel locks, etc. Sounds barbaric but I'm scoping the gun and will leave it scoped and dont have the front site anyway, so really want that shroud and weight gone.

My two worst-case scenario concerns:
1. I can't get it off at all and have to leave it on there with channel lock chew marks.
2. I somehow accidentally remove the entire barrel from the action instead of just the shroud.

Anybody tried and not been successful (#1 above)?

Anybody tried and ruined their gun (#2 above)?

Thanks guys.
