I picked up a 124D Jnc marked rifle on the classifieds from member ChuckHunter. Overall pretty good shape. Not a safe queen by any stretch but a nice rifle. Breech seal was a New Holland hydraulic seal that was the correct OD but wall thickness was only .100". The correct one is .120" and what a difference. I was struggling to even get 630 fps with the wrong seal. Replaced it with the correct seal and WOW ! Same pellet now 776 fps. With JSB EXACT 8.44 pellets filed down to 7.7 gr. I got 816 fps. I mounted a Hammers 3x9 scope with one piece mount. No serious barrel droop. My question is how hold sensitive is the 124 ? For you guys who shoot dimes with them at 20 yards how do you hold the rifle ? The trigger has less creep than my RWS T06 but is a lot heavier. Feels like 4 lbs or so. I'll post some pics. All this pre Turkey day cooking and prep has got me beat.
 
Seriously, don't worry about what everybody else does, experiment and do what works for you. I have owned two for 35 years and know them inside and out and I regularly would shoot chipmunks at 50 yards off-hand. I post about my experience on an airgun forum and somebody will always show up and tell you/me that we are doing it all wrong. It never ends. Personally, I hold mine firm but not tight. The gun is going to do what it's going to do. Enjoy your gun!

No, I have never had issues with the safety. The first 25 years or so I treated my pair with great reverence and I would not work on them myself because I didn't want to mess with a good thing. I had professional tuners go through them every 5 years, laser tunes and such. Then with the internet, blogs and videos I started doing my own work. I highly recommend, if you have the space, tools and time, to work on yours. You will be able to fix minor and major problems in a snap. There's great satisfaction in that too.

I just changed the barrel pivot bolt and breech seal so far. Once I get some more infonI will tackle the safety function issue. Probably will end up buying the Air Venturi spring compressor.

I have an Air Venturi spring compressor and it works very well. Just a heads up. You will need an 11mm to 11mm riser mount in order to get the spring compressor to line up properly with the back of the rifle's compression tube.

Is that just for the FWB 124 or are you talking with any springer ? How much additional height is needed ?

The spring compressor would need the additional height for most springers which is about 3/4 of an inch. The photo shows the Air Venturi spring compressor with the riser mount attached. I leave it on as a permanent part of the tool. The black part is the riser mount.

To bad they didn't design the Air Venturi unit adjustable for height. You have a brand and model number on the riser ? Does the riser have a stop pin ?

Yep it would have been nice if it was adjustable for height or at least included the riser mount with the spring compressor. This is the only complaint I have about this unit. Other than that it is very well made and works very well. 

The riser mount that I used does not have a stop pin. I've found that you don't need one. Just tighten it down and it will hold. I'm sorry I no longer have the packaging so I don't have the brand or product number but if you Google 11mm to 11 mm riser mount it should come up. If you find the riser mount that I used It will look a lot longer. It was too long so I cut it in half with a hack saw.

If you already have a scope mount on the rifle and it is 11mm you can just remove the scope and clamp it onto the mount as long as it is 11mm. Although Air Venturi claims the spring compressor works on a picatiny rail it will not work. It has to be an 11mm mount. I know it's not just me because having read the reviews on this product others have had the same problem with picatiny rails.
