Fun with a Green-Laminate Crown and a Crock Hunter from South Afrika

I dropped by Utah Airguns on Friday and picked up a .25 Crown with the Green Laminate Stock. They had a lot going on but Justin and Austin helped me mount the Nightforce SHV and torqued the Fx scope mounts to the right tension. While I was sighting it in using the in-store range, a bunch of South African hunters came in to shop for airguns. Of course they all wanted to shoot my Crown and I showed them some Side-shot videos of 100-yard collared-dove shots. They showed me videos of 10-foot shots at 16-foot-long Crocks with the shooter standing in water up to his waist. We had a great time even though they had the best stories and videos to back them up. They left with a Side-shot, airgun orders, and a plan to hunt with the Utah Airguns crew and I left with a new Crown and scope. Five miles from the store I hit a starling from 45 yards with my first hunting shot using the new Crown. It was a fun afternoon.

Great story and absolutely stunning rifle. How do you have the 25 Crown tuned as far as reg pressure, hammer spring tension settings, etc? How’s your accuracy been this far?

It shot the JSB Kings just fine but of course I wanted to shoot the 34 grain so I am in the process of increasing velocity for those .25 cal Mark II heavies to 840 feet per second. I am not there yet. It is shooting the heavies at 815 fps.

I set my regulator to around 130 Bar and adjusted hammer spring until I reached 840 fps with the 34gr MK II pellets, remember if you increase only the regulator pressure velocity will go down. You must adjust hammer tension accordingly. When you hav everything correct shot to shot consistency will only be a couple fps. Crown likes shooting the 34's around 830-840 fps. I have shot mine past 100 yards with great success. My Crown regulator was factory set over 145 bar, reducing pressure a bit increased velocity, remember to remove bottle and fire gun once o degas before decreasing regulator pressure or you will damage regulator.

I increased my reg to 125 and the speed decreased (as Bzizzi predicted). Then I increased the hammer preset (requires stock removal) almost to the max. If you go too far you cannot get the external adjustment knob to turn to max so you have to back off a little. Now I am shooting the MK IIs at 839 fps with the external hammer spring set at 4 so I have external adjustment either way. Now the Kings shoot at 928 fps at the same setting.
