And maybe pull out the pellet gage and scale, put on some gloves, and show them how to sort, weigh, clean & lube your ammo (if that's your bag).

Get the kids involved. You said under 13 so I’m guessing that means close to that age. Heck at 12 I was shooting pistols and up to a 12ga shotgun. My own mother was forced to do this over and over by siblings. Forced! Think about it. If you don't want your children or can't maintain a commitment don't have any. Be responsible. The loss of traditional family values in this country is shameful. Really destroyed our culture. I know, it's somebody else's fault.

Well I started today with two grandkids and some slingshot action and some splatter burst targets and moved on to a single shot daisy BB gun. Time will tell wether or not they take a shine to Airguns but I’ll keep them on BB guns till they know safety and act more responsible than video games teach them.

Sounds like a start. Which one seemed to capture their attention most? I’m sure the discipline and adherence to safety will come with time and further instruction and reinforcement.
