Front Or Rear Cocking...Or Neither.

No secret I'm Taipan Veteran fanboy...I've mentored two members concerning Vets who bought and love their's and working on another, at his insistence. Of my air rifles, I have rear lever, bolt, and side lever cockers...doesn't make a hill of beans difference to me, all work flawlessly. I'm not a big hunter but I have taken my share of pests with air guns, mostly sparrows and rabbits with my Rapid 12 .20, (which started me down the rabbit hole) it's a bolt action. As far as Veterans rear vs front cocking much passion exists on both sides of this subject. If I were a passionate airgun hunter I would I would use my Steyr Pro X...a gun most airgunners will never see or hold let alone shoot...Consider this if your wildly concerned about follow up shots, the Pro X doesn't have to be cocked at all being a semi auto...hardly moves during the shot cycle, accuracy VS Vet...it can hold its own...I'm getting 70 shots at 28.4 fpe @ 200b fill the POI isn't going to change if you bump THIS solid barrel...the elephant in the room is how expensive they are...I just want to say the Steyr's are the real deal right up there with the Veteran in build quility and reliability...I shoot them back to back often. I don't consider the Pro X semi auto to be a "novelty"

or a curiosity but a reliable well engineered machine ready for serious business...their just expensive...but you don't have to cock "em!

Yep these are very nice semi's! Usually if I don't like a gun for whatever reason, or don't need it anymore, I'll sell it, so having kept my ProX with no plans on selling that says what I think about it.

If fantasizing about a better semi I'd prefer not to have to wind up the magazine upon putting it in, would like a mag with more capacity, and quieter on my ear.

The rear cocking would never keep me for a second away from a taipan or similar gun. I mean you have to lift your head up possibly to cock the gun. Is this really what we’ve come to? Being bothered by something so trivial ? I might miss a secondary shot at that squirrel that will land me in the Boone and Crocket record book ??? I mean seriously.

Yes my ProX.

Fortunately a trade opportunity was presented to me so I didn't have to pay out but $1400 cash plus a few scopes I wasn't using anymore.
The price for a new one I had struggled with ever since the ProX came out which is why I didn't have one earlier.
I wanted a removable magazine but wanted more than 8 shots like the Leshy2 has.
I have other Steyr airguns and like them a lot.

If a person has the money I think it'd be worth the price for them. If $3000 is a finacial stretch I suggest looking elsewhere. Its not a perfect airgun but its very nice in so many ways at the same time.
