Hello all. First time poster. I have a .177 gas ram break barrel which is a Crosman ELS177. I have a fox problem since I have lots of chickens. Would like to thin their numbers. They are legal to shoot here in Vermont, USA year round if they are attacking livestock. I can sit and watch them snoop around the coop many nights but the chickens are secure when in the coop and behind the electric fence. We do like to let them free range outside of the pen to get a variety of foods and reduce the tick population.
My my question is that I doubt my Crosman can humanely take a fox reliably and am looking at upping my game to something in the .22 or .25 caliber range so I can dispatch them quickly and humanely. Being an idiot about air guns but reading a lot I was hoping for advice on what you would choose. Is .22 enough or should I just make the leap to .25?
My my range is about 35 yards to the coop.
Thanks for your advice.
