Tuning Found out why my p-rod's gauge was leaking, news to me.

Yep, I found out why my p-rod's gauge was leaking, and it was news to me.

Hi all. A little while ago I started a thread about how my new Benjamin Marauder pistol was not holding air overnight. Several recommended that I remove the gauge, apply some teflon thread sealer tape, and I did. And it still leaked.

So, I sent it to Roy Weid owner of Mountain Air Customs (Roy is a p-rod and m-rod specialist). He called today to let me know he was shipping it back - fixed - it was covered under its warranty. Roy said that teflon tape no longer worked to seal a p-rod's gauge because Crosman has begun using an o-ring with the gauge. He said that the m-rod has used an o-ring for a while, but the o-ring with a p-rod's gauge was new.

I just thought I pass this tidbit of info along.

oring as in bspp thread? reason i ask is if its a rubber oring i'd like to know the size so i have one in my spares 'kit' in case mine has one ..

I don't know the size of the o-ring. I'd call Crosman, Roy said it wasn't on the p-rod's schematic, that another p-rod owner had told him about it. Roy told me he called Crosman to find out for sure. I don't know how "new" a p-rod has to be in order to have a gauge o-ring.

The PROD uses an NPT (T for tapered 1/8 - 27 thread pitch) gauge port, thus no O-ring.

Probably he replaced it with a Discovery gauge port, which uses a BSPP (P for parallel or straight 1/8 - 28 thread pitch) gauge port and utilizes a #009 O-ring.

He would have to change the gauge though for the threads to match.

The Disco and PROD share the same tube I.D., so gauge ports and fill adapters can interchange with the right O-rings.

PROD fill probe and gauge port O-rings = #113 Duro 70

DISCO fill probe and gauge port O-rings = #016 Duro 70

Thanks for the info.

Moreover, I also prefer the fill probe assembly being sold by Archer Airguns--I chose the one for the Disco (dual groove and stainless) and not the PROD (single groove and of weaker aluminum construction).

I bought one for my custom Disco-based Don Cothran 2260 PCP, and I was pleasantly surprised that it only had 1 O-ring groove, thus shorter and translates to a bit more air in the air cylinder.

It is also made of stainless + the nipple is not removable but machined along with the body; ergo, like a single piece to negate another source of air dribble.

It looks much cleaner, too!

I just started another gauge Prod leak thread a few minutes ago. My gauge itself is leaking so what does he recommend? A new gauge block from the disco, with the disco gauge or something? Or does Benjamin now have a gauge block with oring, and appropriate fitting gauge? The current setup is pretty bad from a potential leak standpoint.

Kindly read the previous answers, sir.

The Disco gauge port has a smaller air passage, actually.

It might or might not lower the power of your PROD, should you intend to go that route, Mr. B.

Moreover, you would need to purchase a BSPP 1/8-28 gauge to match the Disco gauge port's threads.

To reiterate, the PROD uses an NPT 1/8-27 tapered gauge port and gauge.

I chose the Disco set-up for my next build, as it would enable me to use a WIKA gauge that Trenier sells.

In your case, a yellow gas tape might remedy your problem, but please make sure that the gauge itself is not leaking, too.

The leak might be generating from one of the two gauge port #113 O-rings, so you ought to replace those as well.

Harbor Freight has them, albeit they are not Duro 70-rated, but they do work still.

A plastic box containing O-rings from 005 to 211 can be had from them for around $6.

My gauge is blown and leaking, so if I have to order parts would rather have the most robust...To me new gauge port and gauge.is most likely.

My PRod never came with a guage block like the marauder has. The air tube is tapped for NPT threads and Teflon tape on the threads was how it sealed. I just won’t thru this, losing 100 psi in a span of a week and a half. Ended up swapping the factory gage(it’s on its 2nd one)for the 0-5000 black faced one from McMaster Carr. It’s held air since.
