Found a promising slug for the .22 EVOL Mini

Been spending (wasting) money trying to find a slug the EVOL like. Doesn't care for the FX Hybrid or the JSB slugs. Doesn't care for any of about 10 different NSA slugs I tried. Doesn't like any of the H&N slugs.

I'm running out of US slug brands here...... Been looking at Griffen for a while but took a pause with their LDC and stuff because I don't hunt..... Past weekend decided to order a variety in .177, .22 and .30...... They arrived today - YAY!

Looking at the .22 slugs I got 3 types in 19 grain. My EVOL is tuned for JSB 18.1gr @ 875 fps right now which is giving me 3 solid mags on reg from a 4000 psi fill with about 2-300psi remaining before I hit reg pressure. That works out to ~54psi used per shot for 38-40 shots on reg at 30.75 fpe from a 135CC air tube. (Shame on you Brocock - I could only get 70 freakin shots on reg at 30 fpe from a 480cc bottle). Do I digress? Yeah - I am prone to ramble and do that. Focus! I choose the 19gr so it would be close to the tune of the EVOL.

For testing I got:

  • .217 Pellet Base, Cavity Point
  • .217 Dish Base, 2 Stroke LDC
  • .217 Cup Base, Cavity Point

Initial test. 13 yards, indoors. Normally slugs from the EVOL Mini are so bad I get a 1" shotgun pattern at this distance. Each group is a full 11 rnd mag. The left group is the .217 Cavity Point Pellet Base slug. This was my last group and it was tight up till the last few shots where I was feeling a little fatigue and pulled a few to the lower right. I'm not sure which slugs the two on the right are - but the left group seems to be the clear winner.

Now that I know these slugs have promise I'll bring them outdoors this weekend at 46 yards and see how they do. Should be some nice weather for shooting and I'll follow this post up when I have more data.
