Found a great article on the Air Arms Galahad

I have two and theyre really smooth shooters. The Galahad was an excellent shooter! Quiet as hell! Superb quality.... except mine was missing set screws for the barrel band ( it shook, rattled, and moved around the brief time I had it ) and the indexing mechanism conked out after 50 some-odd shots. Minor things to be remedied, but I was snake bitten and sent it back for an Ultimate Sporter.

I've never shot the Galahad, unfortunately, so I cannot comment on them. I can, however, highly recommend the Air Arms Ultimate Sporter if you are looking for a very accurate, backyard friendly AG. The S510 platform is an older design but it simply works very well, especially with the Sporter stock that fits you like no other. The Q tech moderator on the newer models will make a Marauder sound loud. I first shot one this rear at the NC AG show in October. I ordered one the next day.

That article is from a magazine and I get 4 diff rent British airgun magazines in a app called Readly. a bit like spotify / netflix but for magazines.

They are fun to read but the reviews are kinda wonky, one they never ever say anything bad about any product, even more so when its British made.
Two its all 12 foot pound versions, and thats not really relevant to us that will get the full power version. Hammer springs will be stiffer, none optimised speeds. Usually lacking in there off. Hell the new brocock bantam comes without the hammer sling system in .25. List goes on.

@ddransomi...now I can shoot in backyard out to 75 yards and my wife doesn't even know it unless you crack sound barrier with light pellet with power cranked up.

Deja the Britt AG mags do have good photographs except for their continuing articles on eating feral pigeons or how to clean a squirrel. They do make great airguns though as exhibited by Air Arms and Daystate.

And BSA, Brockcock, Phoenix (Parker Hale), Theoben and Ripley.

That's pretty much all reviewers these days but luckily for us we can balance the overly optimistic Willy Wonka reviews with real world experiences and reviews from my sites like this. If a gun isn't as good as the reviewers said then it usually doesn't take very long for us to hear all about it (many, many times).

I think it's also a fair point about the FAC versions being a different animal. A gun that is great at 12fpe is not necessarily great at 30fpe. They usually do a good job on the .177 and 22 cals. It's the 25's that typically suffer imo. It's not that they are bad. They just look disappointing next to a 25 cal from FX or Kalibrgun in terms of efficincy, noise and consistency (usually).

Either way, I'm sure it won't be long before somebody reviews the FAC version. It's based on the 510 so I'm sure people will like the FAC .177 and 22 cal versions. The only real complaints were the lack of a regulator and the length which have both been addressed now.

@Zebra...that's why I went for .177 in S510. A zillion articles/reviews have been written on the S510s, which have a reputation for being trouble free. The Ultimate Sporter stock and the Q-tec moderator really elevated this platform.

A lack of regulator is not an issue in .177 because with power wheel set a third of the way you still get great accuracy at 50 yds and over 50 shots. Air consumption is minimal . You are only filling to 2900 psi max. The .177 version is also $200 cheaper than the other calibers. All in all it's just fun to shoot.

"ddransoml"The .22 isn't too shabby on air consumption either...I'm getting 30 solid shots...I'm fine with that being unregulated.
@kev...does your's whistle when you fill it from a tank?
Very nice rifle!
As I said, those guns are not bad (far from it). It's just that some people have gotten used to significantly greater efficiency in that price range. I am getting 48 shots from my Mutant Shorty and that has a tiny reservoir. People with the Mutant standard are getting more than 60 shots.

While it's not always the case, efficient guns seem to be quieter and more consistent which is why I was pleased to see AIr Arms offering a reg option in the Galahad. I still think they have some valve work to do on the FAC versions based on the numbers being reported though.

I've never understood why certain brands have different prices based on the caliber. Air Arms uses LW barrels which are the same price in any caliber. It's not like they give the 22 a larger reservoir or a larger mag. They use the same materials and just give it fewer shots.

FX charges the same price for a 25 Wildcat as they do for the 22 and their 25 has a longer reservoir, barrel and shroud.

I like the stock on your S510. You could probably buy a nice walnut bullpup kit for it and still be cheaper than buying a wood Galahad. Then you'd have the best of both worlds.

I really wanted the Galahad, too, because I don't have a bullpup in my 7 gun collection. Galahad was elegant, accurate, and quiet as hell. I have my eye on that laminate Wildcat....but might just forego bullpups and keep saving until I get the Wolverine.303 Hi-Lite.

Every one that I talk to with a Mutant says it's better than the Wildcat in every caliber except in ergonomics....?

"ddransoml"@Dairyboy...so you'd suggest Mutant over Wildcat?
They are both great options. They both have pros and cons so it's really a personal preference thing.

The Mutant is quieter, has adjustable power, less pellet fussy, larger capacity mags, more efficient, it's cheaper.

The Wildcat looks nicer and has the forward cocking lever and has a better stock.

You probably need to buy both to be safe!

I think both are better value than a Galahad FAC. The caveat is that I haven't tried a Galahad yet so I am basing my opinion on the manufacturers performance claims, the pics I have seen and the limited user reviews. I own a Mutant and have spent a good amount of time with a Wildcat and love them both a lot.

@ddransomi...it does whistle when I fill it. I guess it's one of it's quirks. I actually like the banjo fill system with a Venturi foster fitting attached. I just leave it on when I'm shooting and it swivels to an easy fill angle. Sounds like you're enjoying your .22.

@zebra...To sum it up what attracts me to the Ultimate Sporter is it's overall build quality, fit, accuracy, and quietness. I understand high shot counts and latest/greatest. I get over 100 shots with my .22 Air Wolf. My RAW HM1000X in .25 gets over 50 shots with 50 plus fpe. Having said that I will never sell my Air Arms. It just fills to many personal niches of mine. I do appreciate your insight, and usually learn something every time I read this forum.
