Foster adapter question

I am trying to get my system set up. I ordered some foster x 1/8 mnpt adapters. What I received is labelled as 1/8 npt. It is not. Npt is a tapered thread, this is a parallel thread with what I am assuming is a face gasket. It might be nps, I am not sure. Is 1/8 npt used in the pcp world and I got the wrong parts, or is nps being called npt in this application a common or industry standard? Npt threaded fittings don't use a gasket.

I agree with jps2486. You likely received 1/8 BSPP (G1/8) threads which are parallel threads and require some sort of face seal. It has been my experience that BSPP threads are far more common than NPT threads in the PCP world. One notable exception are the foster fittings sold by Joe B and used on the fill hoses he sells individually and with his tanks. Those fittings use 1/8 NPT threads.

Thanks everybody! I got out my thread guages and compared the fittings to what came with my yong heng compressor and water separator. I believe they are 10 x 1 metric. I will be sending them back and ordering some from joe b? or a reputable supplier.

Yes 10 x 1.0 is a common fitting used in pcp field. Especially since a fair amount of our products come from China.

I almost mentioned M10x1, but didn't want to confuse the issue even further!

Joe B is Joe Brancato at Top Gun Airguns (https://www.topgun-airguns.com/ or http://experthpa.com/). His stuff is a little pricey, but some of the fittings and other items he sells are made in the USA if that matters to you.

Female foster x 1/8" female npt (description says made in USA): https://www.topgun-airguns.com/product/foster-brand-stainless-steel-female-quick-disconnect/

Male foster x 1/8" female npt (description does not mention country of origin): https://www.topgun-airguns.com/product/male-quick-disconnect/

North shore compressor is also another great place for parts like these and they're a little cheaper: https://www.northshorecompressor.com/

Female foster x 1/8" female npt: https://www.northshorecompressor.com/products/17B477D822-Paintball-Coupler.html

Male foster x 1/8" male npt: https://www.northshorecompressor.com/products/17B477D822-Paintball-Nipple.html

It would be helpful to know where you plan on installing these fittings. Do you have some pictures of your application you could share?

Edited to clarify that, as Healthservices has stated below, not everything Joe Brancato sells is made in the USA (only the stuff described as such). I have edited this post to reflect as much. Apologies for any confusion caused.

Only the items he states that are made in the usa are made in the usa. NOT ALL THE ITEMS HE SELLS ARE USA MADE. There is a big difference.

Great clarification! My comment wasn't intended to mislead. I thought both of the fittings I linked to were stated as Made in the USA, and I know that's important to some people. Upon review, it looks like the second one isn't. I will edit my post above to reflect that. I'm all for buying from whoever makes the part I want that meets my needs regardless of where it comes from.

The reason I say that is because people will tend to read that a item is made in the usa. Then they look at other items in the site thinking they also are made in the usa. After looking at the pricing somehow it is justified that because it is all made in the usa it is ok to pay the premium. Well not everything is made in the usa. And items not made in the usa are not clearly marked as not made in the usa. Is it false advertising? Well the items that are not made in the usa are not plainly stated as the usa items so you decide.

You shouldn't blame the supplier if you fail to identify the thread that you are trying to match. There are plenty of Chinese suppliers that sell quality stainless-steel products in 1/8 NPT, BSP or M10x1 for a fraction of what some specific airgun dealers will lash you for. It's a lesson for anybody buying stuff online. Always check your items for compatibility and thoroughly check the vendor's claims and specifications, before ordering. Don't assume anything. I have a fairly wide selection of fittings in all three thread types and have never been sent something that I didn't order.

Wow! Thanks again, especially for the links. My application, and why I need 1/8 npt is this. I sourced 3- 30 minute scba tanks locally. They have the quick connect style valves on them, I think scott calls them snap lock. The quick connect scott fitting has a internal diameter that can be drilled and tapped for 1/8 npt. So I need 3 , 1/8 mnpt x foster fittings. I also need a fill hose with a shut off needle valve and a bleed port with a female foster fitting on each end. I will be exploring the links tomorrow. This has been a learning experience so far for sure. I had never heard of bspp, 1 x 10, foster fittings, etc until deciding to purchase a pcp and the support equipment. On that note, the leaving hose that came with the yong heng compressor seems to be plugged solid. My oil for it is not here yet so I haven't run it. Is this a faulty hose, or is it resticted on purpose to wring the water out of the air?
