I’ve got a Walther LGU. Right now I’m shooting 15.89 grain JSBs but I’d like to have a starting point by surveying what FT shooters use.

For those of you who shoot FT with springers…what pellet do you use?

Depends on the gun mostly. My 97K likes the 14.66gr Field Target Trophy while my D56 likes the 15.89gr JSBs

Most FT participants shoot .177 rather than .22. That said, the JSB 8.4gr seem to be very popular in .177 and the 15.89s are probably comparable in the larger caliber. You could try the 13.43gr or 14.35gr JSBs for flatter trajectories. Alternatively try the H&N Field Target Trophies.

@grainmatterphotos has a .22 LGU as well. Maybe he can give you an idea about what works best in his if he sees this.

The H&N Baracuda Greens also shoot well in mine but they aren’t cheap… very flat shooting given the weight.

I will keep those, they are much better balistically than the lighter options and not so far of the 18gr that are better but slower if you have a power limit

If you are serious about getting into FT then you might want to consider finding a 177 gun. For HFT the .20 cal does very well also but very hard to find.
Why? Smallest kill zone is .25 inch so you have 0.3 inch in terms of margin of error on those KZs that may require 1-2 inch of hold over because they are usually between 10-15 yards.

Same here. That said, FX now has a line of 8.4s made by JSB using separate FX dies and the FX pellets tend to be a buck or two cheaper than JSBs sometimes. I haven’t checked but they may also have a .22 in 15-16gr.

I like to use H&N .177 Field Target Trophy 8.64gr. They work well in all my .177s. But they have been really tuff to find lately.
