For Those Of You that Have Been Using AA 7.87gr For More Than A Few Years

In the same gun, have you noticed a difference in accuracy using earlier lots compared to later lots?

I have a recently acquired HW100 in .177. I was doing ammo testing and had pretty much settled on H&N FTT. This morning I pulled out a partial tin of AA 7.87 that I have had for years. I have had them so long as they didn't do particularly well in anything I have tried them in. I almost didn't bother trying them in the HW. They ended up being the most accurate.

I have enough of the pellets that shoot well in all my other airguns, so other than to feed the HW100, I will not be making a pellet order for a very long time. If the consensus is the AA 7.87 shoot just as well with later lots as earlier, I will place an order large enough to be worthwhile. If not, I will just make do with the little I have and then switch to the H&N FTTs

Ordering AA pellets is always a crap shoot. JSB makes AA pellets in large batches from a single die. So all the pellets in the lot and tin are from the same die. Unlike JSB packaging were you can have pellets from multiple dies in the same lot and tin. This is why the AA are more consistent than the JSBs. Unfortunately depending on the gun and the die used the AA could be more consistently accurate or more consistently terrible. Bottom line is the next tin of 7.87 might shoot well in all your guns but your Hw100. If you want to try them again I would suggest that you buy one tin and see if they work well for you in any gun. If they do buy more from the same vendor they will likely be from the same lot/die.

Personally I've tried the 7.87s several times in both JSB and AA and usually find them a little undersized and no more accurate than the cheaper 7.33 or 8.44s. Then again all I own are springers so ymmv.

Ohhh and no. AA doesn't have their own dies. JSB uses their own dies when making the AA. The only difference is all the pellets in a AA lot come from a single regular JSB die.

This is incorrect. Having had multiple conversations with the owner of Air Arms I can say they Do own the dies their pellets are made from. In no way should JSB be using other dies for AA pellets. If they did the breach of contract fines would be daunting.

Who ever told you this is miss-informed or purposely spreading lies.

As always anyone can contact a manufacturer of any ware for specific information instead of spouting off maybe's and I think's.

Obe thing fir sure, everything changes over time!! Whether materials or quality control, things change, the only thing that stays the same is the fact that we all will die someday!! I used the CP 7.9 gn pellets for years with excellent sucess, today they are a crap shoot. I still have a box of those oldies from mid 90's that still shoot excellent ! I haved them coated in beeswax furniture spray so they are not oxidised. I am currently finding the AA 8.4 gn to be excellent in my TX, but when the day comes that they become inferior, I will have to start all over finding the next best pellet out there. I try to keep extra tins put away of pellets that have shot well as a just in case....things will change as time goes on...they always do !!!!
