It definitely depends on which slugs you are shooting because all slugs are not created equal! If your gun can shoot them accurately, I certainly recommend shooting the FX Hybrid Slugs.
What separates the Hybrid Slugs from all other slugs is the amount of damage they deliver on targets that are close up, or far away. I know this video says it was at 44 yards, but I took another range to the target today and it was 66 yards away. At the muzzle, the Hades and Hybrid Slugs both deliver 85fpe from my FX Maverick VP .30cal. But at 66 yards, away, the Hades delivers 42fpe at the target, while the FX Hybrid Slugs deliver 68fpe.
Recovered slug at full pass-through 66 yards. Next to a .30cal and .357cal Hybrid Slug for comparison.
Here is a much shorter distance shot from the same airgun with the same velocity, and it still got great expansion.
Recovered slug at full pass-through, 28 yards on a much smaller groundhog.
Many slugs look like they weren't even shot at eith one of these distances because they simply don't expand. This is where the Hybrid Slugs can beat most other slugs that need very high velocities in order to expand properly, but in both these shots they were traveling at 930fps.
