I'd like to remove the barrel shroud on my Taipan Veteran long .22 and use a Tanto moderator directly on the end of the barrel.
Will this work with regards to fitment?

The barrel is threaded for standard moderators so as long as the diameter of the moderator doesn't hit the air tube.

Thanks. Mine has the added power plenum to the air tube so it's actually longer than the barrel and looks kinda silly. I know I could add the Tanto to the shroud but that makes barrel longer than I'd like.

You are correct it’s not…..the Koi at 7” is and it’s the same diameter as my Tanto which fits great except for being too short.

I have been considering getting a Veteran or Veteran 2. My question is, can these guns be used without the silencer? I live in a no silencer state. Any information would be much appreciated.

Yes! I recently sold my Taipan Veteran Long and I never used a moderator. They do an excellent job of keeping it quiet with the shroud. Enjoy your Taipan! It’s an outstanding rifle. The only reason I sold mine was that I just couldn’t get used to the format.

From what I see, you’re in a no airguns state. Without permits. The factory shroud has internal baffles that work pretty good. If you want to try additional quieting. A 1/2x 20 Donny adapter and a huggett atom, belita, or standard and use blue loctite to “permanently “ affix it to the shroud. That should minimize issues in your state. Only thing I can think of. I’m not suggesting to flount the laws, but following them in spirit.if no mod at all is adamant, the factory shroud will suffice. Guns on the quieter side of most.

You are correct, they are firearms here. So trying to satisfy all the requirements with regards to suppression and baffles stacks in barrel shrouds in addition to a 10 round magazine limit has been trying to say the least.

Yeah, I don’t envy your position. But the factory shroud as it comes should enable you to do what you need. The only gun I had quieter was the hw44 pistol, with mod. Good luck.

I've done this in the past with my Veteran 1 Long. The Tanto and the Koi will thread directly on to the barrel and have clearance from the air cylinder. You just have to make sure that you get the 1/2 x 20 endcap. Having said that, I have eventually gone back to the stock barrel shroud. Even the Koi is noticeably louder than the stock barrel shroud. The Tanto, even more so.

The way your stating the law in NJ , i would think you would have to have a naked barrel because even a shroud with no baffles would still quiet the gun to some degree ?

I checked with my FFL and as long as the baffles are removed it is okay. With that said, shooting with the barrel exposed completely is an option that is looking more and more likely.
