First whitetail

So finally after three years of teaching myself to hunt public lands, I bring home my first whitetail deer.

For even more fun, I had to drag it up and over a missouri bluff to get it out of the woods, and my game cart decided to drop a wheel halfway back. Luckily I was able to replace the missing cotter pin with the wire spiral from my pocket notebook.

Tuned 909s, 196gr NSA slug at 830fps, complete pass through at about 50 yards. She ran about 100 yards and dropped on the trail.

Yay!

Great work buddy! It's harder than it looks to hunt deer with airguns. I live in CA so I can't do it but I'm very aware of what it would take and for me that would be a shot inside 60 yards unless presented the perfect opportunity to find a rest and take my time. Then I guess I'd take a 100 yarder. Anyway she looks good! Enjoy all the real work butchering it. I'm always happy to get a deer but then I realize that I will be spending the next 2 days cutting deer meat on the kitchen counter and I have a oh boy moment. Anyway if you take 1/8 in thick slices of meat and you smash it flat with a tenderising hammer then cover in flour mixed with salt pepper and ground garlic you will have my favorite recipe. Fry it in bacon grease for a couple minutes until golden brown and it's done. Hope you try it! God bless buddy.

I hear that! I passed on some 100 yard deer the other day, and went home and ordered a new Texan :D

The 909s just doesn't have the umph to really get to 100 yards in a reasonable time, drop, and power level...This was about the max range for me, with this gun!

Thanks everyone!

Very nice! I'm about a year behind you on teaching myself to hunt, and I too am relegated to public land. It's not as easy as the shows and videos make it out to be, that's for sure. Still working hard on that first deer, but I have learned the art of spot and stalk for hogs and have a lot of pork in the freezer. It's a good feeling, bringing in your own meat, isn't it?
