First time out to 200 yards with Panthera and Altaros

Finally took her out long range. Unfortunately it was pretty windy but I am super happy with results.

I have a .22 700 Panthera so your post is of particular interest. I've been running the reg on my rifle at 145 Bar. When I shoot the 40 grain Altaros slugs at 930 fps, I get very good but inconsistent results at 100 yards. I think that the hammer strike needed to achieve 930 fps at 145 Bar is causing inconsistent dwell and I've been wondering whether it would be best to increase or decrease reg pressure to fix that issue.

Based on your success, I'm going to de-gas and start again at 130 Bar.

You don’t need to de gas. Are you running over chrono. I suspect your hammer is too light. Causing speed fluctuations. Same happened to me when I was at 150 bar and tried dropping speed. My ES went up to like 20-25 FPS versus the 5-7 FPS it is now.

I find you need to well into the plateau to minimize speed variations from minor differences in hammer strike. Like 97-98% of max velocity at that ref pressure.

The issues you describe at 150 Bar are the same issues I'm having at 145 Bar. I will lower the reg pressure to 130 bar but this gun has a Huma reg. I do need to de-gas first - not a problem.

You're also spot-on regarding running on the plateau. For my rifle, I have to run close to the plateau to achieve very low ES and SD. Chrono is a Garmin.

Thanks for your help.

If you want accuracy and precision with the .22 Altaros King 40 grain, try 900-910 fps. You can thank me later…. 😜
