First quail hunt of the season

My ground squirrel patrol took a left turn when I heard a covey calling just over a hill-I managed to get two before they spooked and got one more on the follow-up. Kind of helps to be part snake when they fall into heavy cover. I'd like to teach my old dog to retrieve them from the heavy cover, though he's kind of afraid of even the airguns.

Good shooting, & good eatin birds. I used to get a few around here in my youth, but have not seen any in 30 years. Like they just disappeared.

With last year's almost normal rainfall after years of drought the quail and bunnies are thriving, not to mention the pesky ground squirrels. After they've been hunted a bit the quail get very wary, I probably have 2 or 3 more chances before it gets really challenging.
There are a lot of brush piles on our place which help both the quail and bunnies by providing cover.

Man that is great shooting just wish Florida allowed quail hunting with airguns.

My son and I got 8 on opening day. Saw a good number of birds.
