First post… opinions on my two future gun purchases

Hello everyone.
I’ve been through pump to springers to 500-700$ range pcp’s so now I know I’m ready to go clean slate and get 2 specific use high quality pcp’s. I’m not set on these yet so opinions welcome. Here’s my idea.

Gun 1) night rat gun. Thermal. On arca rail on tripod. .177 all head shots so 12 ft. lb. Or around there. 20 yard shots max. The priority for this gun is silent number 1 and accurate number 2. I’m thinking Airmaks Krait L with the quietest silencer I can find. Dial the reg down to get 12ftlb.

Gun 2) long range slug gun for day only. This will be later because it’s going to be expensive. I’m thinking the longest RTI Mora in .22 with around 800$ for the scope.

Thoughts?

You are right on the Krait L .177 with a donnyfl Tatsu or Koi. Most quiet aigun I have shot. I have had quite a few. As for the long range, dealers choice, the Mora is a left hand lever, so theres that. Check long range comp leaderboards and see what suits your taste. There are quite a few that are as accurate as you are.

You’re on the right track with your rat gun, but I would go slow on the thermal as that is an expensive option. At 20 yards a simple attached red light will do until you see what really suits your actual needs. Thousands of rats have been killed using such setups by many here.

I'm a fan of Czech guns and I believe the Krait is made there too but I have no knowledge of it. The Taipan's are great guns and very accurate and I would put those on your radar as well. I owned a couple gen 1 RTI Prophets and they were extremely accurate with the .22 LR barrels. Slug guns are a crap shoot and take a lot of experimentation to find the right slug, gun and speed combo so don't expect miracles out of the box when shooting slugs.

I might buy a red light to see how it works also see if anything is out there. I have neighbors so I don’t want to attract any attention… one of my locations is a friends chicken coop out on a farm. He says “ I don’t have rats” we’ll see about that. A red light could be a cheap confirmation.

Regarding lights - if your budget allows it take a look at the OdePro KL52 Plus. It had 3 interchangeable "bulbs", green, red and IR. Includes batteries, scope mount and more. Get all of them rats !!!

Sounds like solid choices. I agree that thermal for 20 yard ratting will be spending waaaay more than necessary. 350 dollar zulus would be plenty.

I for one say go all in and enjoy the ride. Nothing like thermal at night, especially crystal clear thermal with different palate options. Sure 20 yards it’s not needed but who cares, it’s WANTED lol. Plus you will stretch the legs someday I am sure. Cry now I say. Get one of the most popular thermals on the market, the AGM 35-384. Has a very good average price, has lots of good handy options that comes with it, and just plain works and works very well. You can mount it straight on your airgun or clip it on your scope or use it as a clip-on/monocular dual function option. There’s a reason it’s one of the most sold thermals in America. However it doesn’t have LRF just FYI.

If that’s too much for your blood pressure go with DNT Zulus 3-12 LRF. It’s not Thermal but works off IR 850. Would be fantastic 75 yards and closure for pests. And drum roll… is under $600 bucks.

Who cares what you need, get what you really want and enjoy the hell out of it. You don’t see Justin from Utah Air out with a red light, he’s got a 40 pound Armageddon airgun and a $15,000 thermal for 20 yard rats and his smile is a big as the Grand Canyon.

Get your Krait .177, get your high end slug gun and enjoy from day one. If you’re not a tuner, Call Utah Air and have them Tune a slug shooter for you for the specific brand and weight you want. Unwrap, mount scope and pop squirrel heads.
