I've been a lurker here for a number of years and signed up about a year ago but this is my first post.
Older dude from the Michigan U.P. that lives in a rural area with lots of wildlife nearby. My bb/pellet guns over the years were a Daisy lever action, Crossman 160, Webley Vulcan 2, and first gen M-rod. I still have the M-rod but it's been dead in the water for 5 years. I tore the M-rod down a couple years ago and replaced all the seals but I've never been able to recharge it. I'm thinking it's more an issue of trying to recharge the gun with a hand pump which doesn't have enough volume to close up seals? I have access to scba tanks, just need to find the right adapter and give it a try.
With that said, I've had the ewww shinny new things mentality and would like to pick up a newer pcp. Primary usage is going to be red squirrels, chipmunks and starlings in the yard, all generally inside of 50-60 yards but no shortage of twice that distance. Lots of other critters to legally take here as well. Realistically long term outside of punching paper, it's going to see use 2-3 times a week for a couple shots at a time based on opportunity. Pretty much what I do with my 20 guage and .22 mag now but I'd like to cut down on the noise. Hey, any excuse for a new gun right.
Even with the M-rod I never shot that many pellets, so ammo cost is not a concern. Granted that was in a town(backyard) before I moved to the U.P. For the oddball yote, porcupine or longer distance shots I'm feeling partial to .22 slugs. Non expansion pass throughs on close in pest control is still a dead pest. I'm still researching gun options with about a 2k limit. Impact, nice but leery of the learning curve. Buy once cry once and figure it out? Maverick or Wildcat? Vulcan 3? Huben K1? Taipan? and the list goes on.
