First PCP

By re-engineering the Panthera with a plenum-stabilized barrel, FX clearly acknowledged that the Impact, in longer barreled form, had accuracy/consistency issues that weren’t remedied by any of its previous damping/stiffening/tensioning solutions. Therefore, I would wait for an M4, which will no doubt also have a plenum-stabilized barrel. After trying many of FXs experimental solutions, my M3 is back to compact 22 form, where it is a gem.
Agree in part. I can't wait to see what FX does next with the new valve and barrel system.
I do disagree that the longer barreled form of the the M3's "had accuracy/consistency issues...". My M3 was originally a stock .30 cal with the 600mm barrel. I upgraded it with the power block, tungsten hammer and put the 800mm .22 tensioned barrel on it. It is extremely consistent and laser beam accurate. My tune for that setup is shooting 31.2 grain NSA's at 1030fps, with a extreme spread of 9fps and standard deviation is only 2.2 fps. BC of .119. Sub moa all day long.

I disagree with most of these “fx isnt durable” posts. Banding all fx guns together is unfair. The impact I agree isn’t what I’d consider a durable platform, but the boss, royale, crown, are all very durable and accurate platforms. I wouldn’t consider a dsystate redwolf durable, yet they band all dsystates together as durable. Choose who’s advice you take wisely.
Totally agree! Don't trash the whole FX brand because some of their PLATFORMS are difficult. The Bobcat/Boss/Royale platform has NONE of the problems that the Impact or Maverick have & are unbelievable shooters with great dependability & longevity. I doubt any of the people trashing the brand with a blanket statement have experience with their simpler (& less expensive)platforms. Mine have been incredibly accurate, robust, dependable, repeatable & low maintenance!!! The Original Smooth Twist PELLET barrels will hold their own against anything out there in accuracy!

I wish FX would make a bullpup that a big headed left shoulder shooter can use but I don't hate them. I just have no experience with them. But I wonder if buying a FX, or a Daystate, or a Uraigan or a Taipan as a first gun isn't a bit like buying a 16 year old a Porsche 911 as their first car. While they can be tuned down they have power potential that isn't really needed to have a bunch of fun and learn how things work. It also kind of limits the "where do you go from here" future. Still plenty to try, I guess, but when you start at the top you aren't going to see huge benefits in accuracy and/or power from future purchases.

It's also important to be thinking about the need for high pressure air. I'd much rather have a compressor, a bottle, and an airgun than have an expensive airgun and have to hand pump it. There are lots of lower priced airguns that are tons of fun, that is what I use. Starting with them leaves more space for future upgrades. I am still enjoying my Prod, Avenger, and P35s. Any of these seem like better first guns than any FX.

New guy here. Looking to get a good quality pellet gun, either .25 or .30. Accuracy and durability are a must. So far the FX Impact M3 looks like my first choice? 600mm or 700mm? 700cc bottle, pre-tensioned barrel, and good mags would be my first upgrades.
What do you think?
Cowboy, I am brand new to PCPs (but an experienced gunpowder rifle looney) and I started with an FX Crown Continuum in .25 cal. It comes with two different length barrel assemblies (380mm and 700mm) Adding different types (ie. heavy slug) or calibers (.177; .22 or .30) is relatively inexpensive and makes the Continuum a real value that fits many different shooting situations, without having to buy another rifle. I would highly recommend you take a look at it and see if it doesn't fit your needs for high quality, accuracy, power and both hunting and paper punching. I have sense bought a bullpup style rifle in .177 (Benajmin Akela) and a .22 cal pistol (Benjamin Marauder) simply because I am becoming a PCP looney! 😂 The suggestions to look at Day State and Brocock and BSA as quality rifles is also good advice.

I guess I should be clear and state that my issue was not with accuracy or consistency between shots but rather that the POI would shift when the gun was stored for a few days. No big deal if you take a couple shots to sight back in, but not so great when a rat pops out from the chicken coop.

Strange, I haven't had that issue either. Using a long barreled impact in a chicken coop against rats is some serious artillery.
