First pcp purchase

Hi everyone not sure if this is something that was posted or asked but I want some opinions. I'm looking to buy a decent quality pcp pellet gun and want to know some of the good rifles that I can get for small game and some target shooting. I would also like some opinions on getting a .177 .22 or .25 so far from what ove been reading I would say its between a .177 and .25 but any helpful thoughts would be great. Thanks to all in advance!

Welcome! Yup, it’s been asked before. No worries. Try the “Search” button. Opinions will be rampant & all over the place. Best advise, get the best gun you can afford or you will end up getting a second and a third. Also keep in mind the cost of a PCPs support system. Tank? Hand pump? (Most don’t do this) compressor? Etc. It gets expensive fast!

accuracy over power/caliber !! also the range and the competence to make that shot and type of pest you are trying to dispatch. In my case its under 50 yrds (mostly 25 - 35yds) so I settled for a .22 Umarex Gauntlet sure an expensive FX can do it with style and panache and a .25cal can even do spectacular devastating killing shot on film and afford more forgiving mistake that can still kill. That being said I am just a couple of weeks away from finally deciding on a Brocock Hi-lite or the FX Wildcat both in .22

Welcome to the sickness and as most have said spend as much your wallet will allow the first time. If you want more detailed suggestions you will need to provide details on what you are using the PCP for and other wants like how quite, range and power to name a few. Good luck in your quest and don't hesitate to reach out. We have all been in your shoes.

Do consider the .22. JSB now has pellets in 15, 18, 24 and 34 grain. Same weights as a .25, smaller package, and probably better BC due to smaller size to weight. I have a .22 Marauder and when shooting the 18 gr pellets, great accuracy and about 28 fpe at 830 fps. Just bought a .25 Impact, but my goal is to buy the.22 barrel kit and return to the smaller caliber.

Besides, 25 gr .25 pellets are 350 for $19.00 on PA
.18 gr .22 pellets are 500 for $19 on PA. If you want the heavier pellets the costs are comparable.

Just a thought

Thanks for the replies so far ! So to be more specific I would like to have the proce range between 500 and 750. And I would like to have something that is accurate between 50 and 85 yards and would like to be able to hunt squirrels rabbit and if it's not out of the question maybe a fox because there is some that are damaging my yard and garbage. I did see some reviews on the Benjamin marauder and want to know if thays worth the money or can I get a better bang for my buck elsewhere

I'd take a serious look at the FX Streamline in 25 caliber.....synthetic stock. I have a SL22 that is great for birds out to 100 yds.

I have a Wildcat 25 that I use for animals.....I've shot 6 woodchucks with it, furthest one was 52 yards. Also several skunks and two raccoons.

I hand pumped for a few months, didn't think it was that bad until I got the Wildcat with larger air cylinder, higher fill pressure and lower shot count.

Don't underestimate yourself.....if you end up liking this a lot and you have animals and birds to shoot, you'll save yourself lots of money by starting with a gun that might have eventually worked your way up to.

Here's a short video of a longshot with the 22.

And a woodchuck with the 25.

Price range between $500 and 750 - leaves lots of choices. Look at the Marauder in .25. I have the .22 and it shoots 75 yards really well. Quarter sized groups when tuned and with a little practice. those I've spoken to claim better accuracy in .25.

If you want a bullpup, I highly recommend that you make sure the cocking mechanism is directly above the trigger and not in the back. It's a difficult position to hold the gun and cock, and stay on target.

So many choices in that range, and you really can't make a mistake

I have the marauder in .25 and you can't go wrong. I researched air rifles for 2.5 years before I finally commited...why did I wait so long. My rifle is for hunting and have it tuned to shoot jsb' s at 850. I have taken everything from starlings to woodchucks...i even put down a 45 lb coyote with it at short range. The gun will consistently do 8 shot dime size groups at forty yards...and not to boast as I am not the best shooter even in my family but anything 50 yards and under is toast.
