First groundhog with sideshot

This evening I got out for groundhogs finally. Just before I left the house I decided to mount the sideshot in hopes of getting a hit on video. In hindsight I should have taken more time mounting and testing with this scope.

I spotted a decent sized groundhog at 80 yards and was able to get within 50 yards using some trees to hide me. Unfortunately that location forced me to take an off hand shot. Good thing I have been practicing off hand shooting as much as off the bench. The hit was not where I wanted it, but luckily he was dead before I could walk to his hole.

Now I need to devote some time to play with adjusting the mount and camera setting.https://youtu.be/YAAotdx9MB4

Nice hit! It takes a little getting used to the sideshot. I have been trying to hold steady longer before the shot and then longer in follow through for the video presentation. When not shooting SS video, I tend to snap the shot and pick my head up right away to assess. If I can keep my visual picture in the scope longer, it makes for better scope cam footage. I am still very new at video capture and have a lot more to learn, please take no offense.

Keep up the good work and thanks for sharing with us.

Braxton’s 40 yard kill shot to eye. Slow motion. JSB 18.13 from Marauder.

I wouldn’t want anything hanging off my scope to film. Braxton’s coming over tomorrow or Saturday to use his set up to film 200-300 yard pellet strikes. If you can see the details in this video of eye exploding you’ll see why I’d rather use his system.

His system is an IPhone 10S+ filming through a spotting scope of high quality. He can go up to 96x I believe.

Great shot & better stalking. You, must be an Archer.

Jim - no offense taken. I can use all the suggestions I can get. Moving the gun after the shot to take a look is an extremely hard habit for me to break.

I always enjoy a good stalk. It does remind me of my archery hunting days.

The phone I used is a Galaxy S8. Any tips for getting better image quality/stabilization from the phone are welcomed. I know I was zoomed in too far on the camera and should have backed down to 4 power on the scope.

Jim I am learning the same SideShot video taking lessons as you. If you want to share your hunting and pesting adventures we need to do more than just make the hit. Though for the farmers the main thing is to GetR Done. Bill

Im unfamiliar with that phone but its probably similar to my iPhone ten.

i like to pick the range im likely to shoot at, set the frame size and exposure, and leave it on. Then when a bird lands i simply hit record and fire.

This of course is a huge battery drain, which is why you will see in my videos i have a charger pack velcroed to my air bottle, with a line running to my phone. It lasts all day and now i can shoot about five times as fast since the setting are perfected before a shot.
