FX First Day Out With the King

I switched to my Meopta after a disappointing start with the new Leupold shooting 2” high at 50 yds even with the elevation maxed out. I got dialed in and practiced with 34 gr and 25gr Wildman slugs. I was shooting from a pair of sticks, and there was a fair amount of wind, so I feel certain I can get even better performance from this gun. Once I felt confident with how the gun was performing, a squirrel came out at 83 yards-my first kill (shooting 25gr slugs), a second, much smaller critter came out at 102yds and it went down clean. I am happy with the gun and ammo, but not the scope. I’ll need to look into shimming it.

Very nice shooting. Is this a 600mm in .22? Is it a Superior Heavy liner? If so I would recommend that you try these if you are still searching for the best ammo. My Panthera and my friends are both tuned to this slug. It is the single best slug tune that I have ever used. I’m not exaggerating when I say that this combo, when shooting from a bench or a tripod, has not yet shot a 5 shot group larger than a half inch at 50 yards. Most groups are in the .4” range. I’ve never seen such consistency in a slug tune. And as a bonus they are devastating on ground squirrels.

Yes, it is a 600mm barrel, but I don't know about the liner(didn't know that there were options on liners). I have a variety of slugs and pellets to try ranging from 16gr and 18gr JSB's and slugs ranging from 22gr FX hybrids up to 37gr Wildman. I'll be sure to put those 30gr H&N slugs on my list for future experimentation.

If you got it with a 600 mm barrel then you should have the Superior Heavy liner. It has a faster twist rate than the 500 mm barrel and is better for shooting heavier slugs. Those 30 grain H&N slugs are a great compromise between a good slug weight and still having a good shot count. I’m pushing them at 945-950 fps. I am blown away with how great they perform in my Panthera. Definitely worth a try for you.
