First Date Jitters: FX Impact .30 - The Thrill is Gone

This morning June 23rd - Chrony is showing positive signs that the settings are holding. I have touched no settings since evening of 21st. Chrony results this morning = Avg 872 ES 10.9 and SD 3.6
I reset the scope zero to this MV and the same parameters as originally set up during break in. far zero 48 yards. Will shoot a few mags today and see how it holds up. Thanks all for your continued support and mega thanks to Ernest Rowe who contacted me and spent significant amount of his time helping me to trouble shoot. So, for now the Impact doesn't need to be rushed to the ER.

Great story, happy ending. I just got off the phone with AOA and my girl is coming home tomorrow (constants accuracy issues) barrel replacement. Hopefully it to will end happily. 25 cal.

Well Tutuan - that may be premature. Subsequent to my last post, with no further adjustments, performance took a nose dive again. Validated by Chrony checks 3 times per day with zero adjustment. 10 shots per Chrony check starting at 220 bar each time, same pellets JSB 44gr. All Chrony indoors shot out back door. Rifle remained in place with no movement from bench. Trying to control as many factors as possible.
I am fairly confident that I have a reg or valve related problem and got an RMA and shipping to AoA today. So no, the thrill is not back quite yet. I've actually been quite frustrated having shot more than 450 JSB 44 with 90% of them being over my Chrony in 2 1/2 weeks. Not a very happy airgunner at the moment. :-(

Update - Had to get an RMA and Impact was sent to AoA to address the continuous loss of power monitored by three Chrony checks per day despite no adjustments to the rifle from performance baseline. Was delivered at AoA yesterday.

Hi I just found your post, I am new to pcp rifles and my first one is a .25 cal impact. I was having the same issues as yours. But over time my fps kept going down, would settle in and then drop again. Started at 830fps then dropped to 650fps. I did some trouble shooting and figured out the hammerseat(part c1 fx part list)was almost all the way unscrewed. It did not have a grub screw(c2) holding it on so I emailed fx and this is the reply I received.

The screw have been removed because it was hard for customers to get hold of the 0,89mm allen key that is used to loosen that screw. So what I think you should do is to look it whit more Loctite. Also you can put a small piece of an oring or a small rubber ball inside the hammerstop to get something that the valve pin stop towards inside the hammer stop. That way you’ll look the whole thing in position when the Loctite hardens.

I screwed it back on with the thread lock and now I am getting 850fps with no other changes.

Mine is at aoa too. Let's hope they can fix our guns well . I'm sure the impact is a great gun when it works 100%!

Just an update to my FX Impact .30 experience. After having the warranty work completed; I monitored the gun's performance for a period of 4 days by shooting only over the Chrony 3 times per day for a 10 shot string, each starting at 220bar fill. With no changes to any settings made by warranty service where it was set "at it's maximum level of performance for .30," it countinously lost power again starting at 861fps for 44gr JSBs back down to the 790s. During this 4 day period, the gun had no changes to any setting made by expert gunsmiths at warranty and it was set up over a Chrony without ever moving for the four day period. This particular gun had never been outdoors.
I contacted my original dealer and relayed the entire history of my three plus weeks of ownership and provided him a link to this thread. My retailer graciously agreed to take the gun back for full purchase price in exchange for another new gun for which I placed an order and am awaiting its build and delivery. I believe the retailer acted in good faith and has ensured my continued business with them for future purchases. I have been one of their loyal customers for more than 10 years.
I look forward to trying out an Impact again at some point in the future. I really loved the form factor, light weight, and ergonomics of the Impact which really works well for hunting purposes. I will continue to monitor the forums for indications of future improvements and platform stability. Having owned several FXs over the years, I have faith the product will be enhanced and perfected.

Sorry you've had problems. Thanks for sharing. I'm about done with my 3rd tin of 50.15gr JSB and will certainly be on the watch for this problem. I haven't had it over the chrony since I first got it, but can see by your description that it's something to check from time to time. As of today {knock on wood} mine is shooting very nicely and I've adjusted only the hammer spring screw...which made 10more fps, but it wastes a lot of air, so I set the power wheel back down at 4. Also, the 2nd stage on mine was about non-existent. No allen key I had would fit it (the large setscrew) either so I had to take a dremel to one to whittle it down to size. The trigger was not very consistent though. It's good, but I've had to turn it up a little further than I want so it'll always give me the 2nd stage all the time. I'll pay attention to the lateral pressure like you mention and see if I'm causing it.

Then yesterday, after the golf ball challenge I resighted in at 50yds. The center target and patches represent getting it re-zeroed. The others are 3 shot groups. When I did my part the Impact delivered sub dime size groups. A couple were all in the same hole.
Overall, quite happy, but am certainly on the watch for performance degradation.
Oh, and I have the Side-Shot big mags for it. Really like these a lot, they work terrific.

I'm surprised AoA continues to sell the Impact and FX continues to supply them. Seems like a serious redesign is in order.
Even though people continue to buy them, the after sales costs to the manufacturer and distributor must be quite high. And the morale in the repair dept quite low.
