Finally, got the best Airgun (or not?)

Hey guys back online after a time off from almost all social media, but this forum has so much info that I like to give back a bit, my 2 cents if you like.

From time to time I get the usual Q. EDOSAN what is the best Airgun available?

(my mind rumble a bit, and I think...dang, here we go again) and (for me) the answer is pretty easy, there is not such a thing as the BEST airgun, because we all have different needs and goals. But for sure there are a few that gather what I like.

Amog the best airguns available we have DAYSTATE and FX , of course you have many others but I will refer to those only since I have long test those. And tested stock ones (meaning the ones anyone can get in any airgun shop) not talking about special made or custom ones.

So for me the best airguns as today are:

Tactical:

FX IMPACT : For sure one of the finest airguns available, I love it and is part of my personal collection, but is really the best airgun? For some Sure it is, of others not so much. Is accurate, amazing shot count, powerfull, but many points of failure (orings I mean) and that can be frustrating specially for newbies. DAYSTATE DELTA WOLF: One thing is sure about this one, it is the most tecnological airgun as today (Jan 2022), but is the best airgun? Again for some it is for others not so much. I love the DW and I love Tech, but considering it was recently launched, it has a few things to get better (.22 cal , bluetooth among others) but the tech behind is just amazing, so if you are in the tech side and like to have the latest, this might be the one for you.

Classic

FX CROWN: Best Classic style airgun from FX (IMO), Have not test it so I can not speak much about it, but I know is good, it wins BenchRest comps so it is accurate.

DAYSTATE REDWOLF: Accurate and the electronics works good (not great IMO but good enough), trigger is close to perfection (electronic match grade) this airgun screams quality. My review: https://www.airgunnation.com/topic/daystate-redwolf-hp-22-cal-review-and-thoughts/?referrer=1

Long story short, I do not love classic look airguns (personal preference), but both are great, still if is accurate I will use it on BenchRest comps...

Final Thoughts:

The best airgun depends on your needs, sometimes a US$200 airgun fits all your needs, and then BINGO is the best airgun (for you!) and is great.

Lets be happy on what you have and you can achieve, and share the happiness! Enjoy what you do without sending crap to the ones are not agree with you.

Some may think: ok, got it but EDOSAN then what is the best airgun for you? Well as today and after testing a lots of airguns over several years I can say for sure: it is the FX IMPACT M3, there you go! ;)

EDIT:

WHY the FX Impact M3 is my favorite? well here is why:

I Live in a 10 acres forest, and I have avocado trees among other fruit trees, so basically I live a farm life, airguns are not just a hobby for me are tools that I need to use almost everyday to control vermin (Birds, Rabbits, rats, etc).

Shot Count: in .22 Shot count with the 18gn and 900fps is big, do not remember exacly but probably arround 150 shots

Tinker: Like to tinker and the impact is "tinkeable" jaja (is that a word?)

Quiet: The impact with my settings is dang quiet

Big Stock Mag: 28 shots per mag

Fixable: I belive there is nothing I can not fix from it (I have a Lathe but most important the FX Support, they send fast whan I need it)

Accurate: Probably among the most accurate Airguns I have tested, like it for the field and for BenchRest (Both I do often)

Powerful: from 20 to 100 fpe no problem, perfect for my needs

Slug Ready: Shoot almost all slugs great

Not too long: 700mm and is still manageble, 700mm in a classic airgun, too long for me (hunting, field)

All that makes me take it and shoot, sometimes I do not even need to refill (air and pellets), and sometimes I do not shoot donno for a week, but when I check it and shoot my first one and go right in the center ... I smile, over and over again ... at the end is the airgun that put more smiles in my face!

What about you? comment your thoughts on the one you consider "The Best"

Yeah... best airgun? Well, I like the traditional style and have a Daystate Regal carbine in .177 and S510 carbine in .22 and some others. I like the Daystate for its shot count and flatter trajectory, but the S510 for heavier, harder hitting.. so how do I pick best as it really depends on my mood that day and what I am doing..
I haven’t tried a tactical yet as don’t care for the looks but may some day. For now staying away from electronics as I figure they will fail someday and it’s a lot different than replacing orings.

I will say, I am hooked! Lol

The best airgun for me is significantly different because I shoot from the left shoulder. The Impact totally does not work because the magazine is right in my face. A Crown would work but I don't really want a gun that long. I really like my SPA P35. It is lighter than an impact or crown (5.2 lbs) and shorter than even an impact (under 30 inches with a 450mm barrel). Regulator adjustment is MUCH more difficult (access is inside the air tube) and I'm sure FX and Daystate rifles are nice in other ways but the P35 works for me.

There are other bullpups that would work for me, a left side shooter, but they are all significantly heavier than the P35 (and cost more). Another unique feature is the shroud that slides on the barrel and can be easily modified to make it really quiet - like under 70db. That saves length, weight, and money versus adding a moderator which the others would need.

If you want to include a lefty friendly rifle, and don't want to agree with me on the P35, a Prophet would do. Similar to an Impact in many ways but works for us lefties. I think a Uragan works too. But IMHO, no real need to spend that much when the P35 works so well.

I also bought a (SPA) P35, in our market it is called a Snowpeak P35. Great little rifle, but needs some work, (like all budget guns) to make it work great. Not the best by a long shot. That slot belongs to my Redwolf and also the RAW TM 1000 for benchrest shooting. But if I want to dispatch some pests I reach for my Uragan. If you want to label any gun as the best you need to state what you want it for. The best gun is actually many guns.

Here is my ranking of the dozen + I have owned over the last 4 decades..I shoot one or more of the top 3 just about every day.

1. Anschutz 9015 - amazing trigger / accuracy; offhand practice on the 10 meter basement range hard to beat in the winter

2. Air Arms HFT 500 - still setting this up for field target, quite happy with its performance in bench rest

3. FX Impact .177 - perfect setup for backyard pest control / plinking, not sure if it will make the grade as a hunter field target gun

4. Sheridan .20 cal - Not much action lately, but muscle memory kicks in quickly (sent several thousand rounds down the tube in the 80's)

Springers - it pains me to say they are spending more time in the safe these days. So hard to compete with the top 3. I hear them complaining every time I close the door, and I swear they can hear me when I top off a cylinder or fill up the FX mag.

I think the keyman hit it right on the head. The perfect Airgun, is the gun that is perfect for you and what you’re doing on a particular day in that moment and it shoots straight and hits what you’re aiming at. Those guns in the original OP a beautiful, expensive with tons of technology And innovation. However sometimes those things get in the way of enjoyment. Sometimes you just can’t overlook simplicity when it comes to an airgun. And in someway isn’t that perfect?
