Finally a calm evening

After last nights 50-60mph winds and tornado just a few miles north of my house. This evening had some really calm winds. Here in North Central Oklahoma we’re going on 2 months with winds 15-35mph. So this evening was a blessing. Broke out my R7 and HW97 right after supper and shot a few dimes.

I’ll let you guess which one was the last shot lol.

As good as my HW97 shoots I can never put 10 groups all together.

Between the .177 and the 7.33gr, which travels straighter if you ARE infact shooting with crosswind? Are there ammo choices for airguns that deal with wind better, whether that be shape, weight or whatever?

At least from my experience domed shaped pellets do much better than flat nosed pellets in the wind. All pellets will be affected by wind and how much depends on the weight and velocity of the pellet and the speed and direction of the wind. Wind can be not that bad if it’s consistent but if your getting big shifts in low to high or change in directions of the wind it gets pretty tough to shoot consistent . Wind is like the water in the ocean, it has an ebb and a flow(a high and a low) and like waves if you’re patient enough and watch you can time the lulls. One of the places I shoot rimfire matches on a good day has wind speeds of 8-12 mph but being on the clock( 1.45 minutes to shoot 10 shots. 2 shots from 5 positions) you don’t have time to wait for the lull so you have to bracket your wind holds. So say if the target is 150yds and the wind hold for the 8mph wind is .8 mils and the wind for the 12mph wind is 1.6 mils I’ll actually hold 1.2 mils and that should keep me on target for any wind speed from 8-12 mph.
