Depends on the size of the tank and what psi you're pumping to. Pumping my 200cc 220 bar tank is a whole lot easier than pumping up my 500cc 250 bar tank! What's the size of the tank on your gun and what bar fill?
My only experience is filling a 180cc tank to 200 bar, which I guess is on the small/easy side. All the hard work is done with body weight. It might be difficult if you have lower back or hip problems that make it hard to bend and squat. I can say this for sure: it's a lot easier than cocking a magnum springer a few dozen times in a row.
also what brand of pump are you in the market for. do you want a chap one or do you want the best which is HILL MK 3 OR MK 4 I currently have both the mk 3 and mk 4
Triples, both those rifles should be quite easy to fill with a hand pump. It's all in the technique. Stiff arms and body weight. I would second the suggestion of the Hill pump. Have one and it works great.
thank you for the replies, 60 years old, had a hip replaced a few years ago, was just wondering how difficult it would be. I'm currently playing with 2 TX 200,s .177 and a .22 but I'm always looking
Its not too bad...I fill my FX Royale 500 by hand...as hasenpfeffer stated above...make sure you use your body weight....trying to pump with your arms will accomplish two things...frustration and tired arms. The key is to not let the tank get too low once its filled...I shoot my FX Royale 500 (unregulated) from 200bar to around 150bar and then I pump it again...that seems to give me enough shots for the work I put in to pumping it. Have fun!
You can do it I did for almost two years. It is a workout for sure. In those two years saved $ for a carbon fiber tank and a compressor. Was worth the money and the wait. Still have a pump has not been used in a long time.
I fill my Impact with a pump. It's quite a chore, but it isn't bad enough for me to rush out and buy a tank. I'll normally pump after I'm done for the day so I don't have to pump from 150 bar to 250. I make sure I put it away full. Getting 80 shots per fill makes life a little easier too.
I had a Hatsan AT44 long and used a Flying Dragon pump which I'm told is an Air Venturi clone. I never had to pump from empty and I'm certain that would be a chore. Going from about 150 bar to 200 bar I would typically move the pump and cylinder into the den and pump during commercials while watching tv. You don't want to go fast; keeping the pump from getting hot is important. Doing it during commercial breaks and pumping slowly I could get to 200 bar in 3-4 commercial breaks easy. So that's probably 12 minutes total of slow pumping. My 17 year old son is neither strong enough or heavy enough to pump.
"thanks Joe, I'm in Alaska. I'm just trying to get an idea if I want to upgrade to a PCP"Triples where you located ? I have a scuba tank a guy sold me for a good price if your close I can pass it on for same . Im in East TX
The hardest thing about filling with a pump is only the first fill...every other fill after that is always a top off. I gotta say most people that really complain about pumping are out of shape or just old!
Sorry to hurt feelings.. I am in my 30's and in shape, but I do see that most of you guys are up there in age (60-70). Probably not best to blow your back out
Well, I'm just 76, and I do have a hand pump. But, only because it was given to me. I can still press (over me head) 200 pounds, I can do 25 pushups, and my resting BP is under 125 over 70. Pump? FORGETABOUTIT! Even pumping from 1,700 psi to 2,900 psi isn't for the light hearted! To me, it is a good way to decide not to do PCPs. This is the exact reason I have a Freedom8!
I have an almost brand new Benjamin handpump and its only been used maybe 5 times and I never had a problem pumping but I really wanted a carbon fiber tank so I bought a 72cuft. and Shoebox Max and now the pump is packed away in its original box collecting dust.
When I got my Marauder a few years ago, I bought a mini CF paintball tank and the local paintball shop fills to 4500. The problem I had with it was I could only fill my rifle to 2900 with the paintball tank fill adaptor and it was hit or miss if the paintball shop could fill my tank. I'd get 7 fills per bottle and that went quick when I was tuning. So I went out and bought the Hill pump and I haven't looked back. I still have the bottle, but it's such a pain to get it filled on my time off from work that I never use it anymore. Now I have the Impact and pump it to 250 bar from 150. It sucks, but it's not too bad. I can have it topped off in about a beer. I am also 6 foot tall and 250 pounds. I'm in very good shape. Round. I said screw a six pack and went right for the pony keg. Ever since I have got the pump, my wife has noticed my arms getting bigger. So yes pumping sucks, but my wife likes me again so it's all worth it
