Filling Benjamin Marauder w/ compressed air

I bought the hand pump which is the most obnoxious thing in the world to fill this rifle with. My brother uses a scuba tank. Is there something semi affordable and convenient in between these two options
These compressors will fill your gun, but they won't fill a SCBA tank.

If you want to be able to fill guns and tanks you need.
https://a.co/d/5zCbOqx. Or a tuxing twin like

not that I have any experience doing it but I would hand pump befor I let the gun get very low on air. Where does your brother fill his bottle?
That is the most convenient way to fill a PCP. (scuba tank) as the marauder has a 3000 psi max fill you dont even need a C/F bottle, aluminum will due.

I should also let you know an air cooled compressor like the orange vevor doesn't require oil and oil changes like the water cooled compressors do. Something like that would be the easiest to learn on. You can set the auto stop. Its the most affordable option. Its portable and has 12v cables to run off a car battery if you want.
Water cooled compressors are more durable but require maintenance, and a water bucket. They are capable of filling 6.8L Scba tank if you eventually want to own a tank and fill it yourself. I started with the vevor then ended up with water cooled compressors once I owned tanks

Unfortunately (or not), air filling PCPs is not easy or cheap. I recently dove into the air gunning pool and, like you, went with the Marauder. Value-wise, probably one of the best PCPs on the market. I ended up getting a "mini" fill tank. It's good for about a half-dozen or so fills, and then I take it to a local shop for refills. I may eventually get a compressor to fill my mini-tank, but for now... this works well for me.

I like the mini tank because I can take it to the range bench easily. A big tank would be another matter (and would likely be left in the car - no bueno). Portable compressors don't appeal to me due to the slow fill and that I would have to take my rifle on and off the range line and go back and forth to the car. No thanks. Very inefficient for my local range. I would have to case the rifle on the line while the line is hot. And then uncase it when I bring it back.

With my mini-tank, when the rifle needs to be refilled, it takes only seconds, and the rifle stays at the bench. Very convenient and efficient.

After hand pumping for years, I bought a Rovair compressor for direct filling. Game changer. Low maintenance, compact, and simple to use.
A decent compressor is probably the most important component of your PCP arsenal.

No, not really. You will need a compressor, YH, CX4 or similar. Or a 65cf 4500 psi bottle that has the DOT stamp and current certs and a local scuba shop with 4500 psi banked air.

Having an unused hand pump is a rite of initiation into PCP ownership. I keep threatening to use mine just so the abs can get a workout (it never happens)

Probably 3/4 of the forum members are also NIB hand pump owners.

I briefly considered getting one as a "back-up." And then... I changed my mind.

Hahaha. Well that makes me feel better

I have two hand pumps. A Hill three stage hand pump that is only good to 200 bar then it gets crazy harder. I used this damn thing for about six months. Works great for hunting. Plinking, not so much.

My second one is the Huben four stage hand pump that works up to 350 bar. This thing is amazing. Adding a fourth stage to the pump makes it a huge upgrade.

I have used it a couple of times and I am impressed. Much much better than the Hill.

Weighs next to nothing and would be a lot easier to carry than a tank and a compressor.

The issue with the air cooled compressors is they are slow. Hours to fill a 3L tank.
But that slow does translate into long term reliability.

The water cooled, like the Tuxing Dual cylinder are MUCH faster, ~20-25 minutes to fill a 3L tank. That speed does cause wear and tear. So rebuilding the high side is occasionally necessary. I made it around 2 years before rebuild on my TXEDM042. I use it a lot. I also keep a Yong Heng single cylinder as backup.

The Yong Heng with autostop is a good choice if you want speed but want to keep the cost down. Usually about $200.

Only hand pump i have is an AirForce that came with a gun I bought. Never used it, never plan to use it. Probably should see if someone would buy it.

That would be a big nah from me too.

They are the most unused accessory in the world of PCP shooting.

Call me lame but I'd rather shoot my springers or Sheridans if it came down to having to hand pump

FWIW, I have a Hill Evo 350 that's awesome for direct fill a CX CS4 for lazy filling of big tanks and an expendable Yong Heng for rage filling. In a way you get what you pay for...even w HPCs

Well, I've only got the one air rifle, so far. For now, I just have to make trips to the local shop for refills of my mini tank. If that becomes too much of a chore, I'll likely get a compressor to fill the tank. I'm just not going to use a manual pump at this point in my life.

But if I am out of air and want to go to the range, I'll just pick some of my "powder burners" to shoot. That's more of a dilemma, because I've got a fair number of those vying for my attention, and I can only bring so many! ;) Decisions, decisions! Rifles? Pistols? Calibers?
