Filling a SCBA tank.

You should never overfill but if the tank is made to take that kind of pressure and under a current Hydro it should never have a problem. But that said it is always a good idea to cage when filling especially if one already has the cage. Although not many of us have cages nor do we have problems with filling un-caged tanks. Not to say that there is not a little healthy paranoia involved when filling.

Edit; I have had the crap scared of me on several occasions when o-rings, burst discs and or hoses have blown. That is my healthy paranoia. ;^)

Why? Is it a wild animal?😀 In practice your SCBA will be connected via a fill hose to the compressor. So other than laying tank beside said compressor. I don't understand the cage question. You won't be blowing up your SCBA at 4300 psi with your compressor. SCBAs are not designed to fail catastrophically. And your compressor definitely wouldn't have the power to do so.

You don't have to do it, however, you can always err on the side of caution. Additionally, if your tank is new, it shouldn't be a worry. But if your tank is old and/or hasn't been hydro-tested, then it may be a good idea to do it. Again, this is only if you feel it needs it. We don't know how old the tank is or it's condition. Only you can discern that.

I'm using them Chinese tanks from ebay called acecare. I fill to 4500 psi all the time without a cage or ever thinking of needing me. I even cuddle my tank like a baby so my tank will be happy. Never cross my mind it will blow up and and kill me. You can be cautious but just don't be paranoid. These tanks are build to handle 4500 psi easy. They are hydro test to 7000 to 10,000 psi. So 4300 is nothing on these tanks. Even if your compressor can output to 10,000. The burst disc of the tank wil pop first before your tank will explode.

I thank you all for the info. I am new to the PCP world and getting to know how it all works. I am cautious around high pressure. I have in the pasted worked with split rims and if any of you know they can be deadly if the fail and that is only under 70/100 psi. I know that some question I ask may seem dumb, But remember there is only one question that is dumb and that one is the one you do not ask. For that one may kill you.
