FIELD TARGET TECH #24 DESCRIBING OGIVE & SWAGING PROCESS

Mike,

It's fun to tinker, but as long as the results are what you want, that's all the better. In my case of decent accuracy with a few flyers, tells me I'm almost got it figured out.

Keep experimenting with weight and hollowpoint, solid point, and you might even find a combination that works even better than what you have now.

Xbowsniper,

i have already started in different weights. I have made 75 slugs in 21, 23, and 26. Having already shot 23 and 27 grain pretty well without tuning the gun for them. I will probably get one punch and another hollowpoint punch as I believe you have to buy them as a set. And of course I pick the 1E hollowpoint which adds $75. I will get either dish or flat.

BC question. If you had two slugs. Both are the same diameter and weight but one is longer than the other, would you expect one to have a higher bc? I have StrelokPro and shot my 23 grainers and did the validation and it was giving them quite a bit higher bc than NSA which shocked me.

Mike,

First, if you need a different base punch, you do not have to buy an entire die just to get another base punch. I'm getting one more die, and 3 different base punches. The base punches for my particular set up, are $50 each, yours might be different, thus probably a different price, but nowhere near a price of a die. If you look on the Corbin site, and look up the style and kind of dies you have, you should be able to find the right base punch that you would need.

As far as BC is concerned, and going by your statement above, the shorter one of the same weight should have a better BC, just because there is less of it for the wind to take sideways. I really don't involve myself in BC's, other than looking for the best one that is accurate out of my Field and rigs.

Keep me posted, it'll be a few weeks before I get the rest of my equipment.

Hey, Tom.

Nice video for people not familiar with swaging. Looks like your enjoying the fine tuning and accuracy phase.

It makes the airgun thing a lot more enjoyable to me when you can have match grade projectiles that you make.

Looking forward to hearing about some final no flyer groups when you get it all together.

I know I spent a lot of time getting a gun to consistently shoot sub MOA groups at 100 yards back to back group after group.

That is definitely much easier than using a reloading press. Yours is all in one motion. I have to bleed it down on one punch and then swap for the hollowpoint punch. But I have gotten great results and it’s fun to tinker.

You may have the older dies. I have them too. 2 step process.

The new dies are a one step process. I don't have the reloading press dies though.

Might be worth checking out.

I just got the die from Corbin last week. From my understanding if you use a reloading press it has to be a two step process. Unless you don’t use the weight adjustment punch. Then it can be one step but the slugs will only be as consistent as you cut the cores. So the two steps is worth it to me. I would love a press like xbowsniper has but spending too much on other guns right now

Yeah I know I can get a different base punch. When I go on the site it makes it seem the nose and base punch come as a set and you pick what you want. Since I’m only interested in 1 E hollowpoint I would get that plus either flat or dish base. The 1E HP option is an additional 75 on top of the 75.

Mike,

They do come as a set, when you order a die, it will come with both the nose punch and base punch automatically. When I ordered my S2 die, it comes with a base punch I specified (flat base) and I ordered the additional punches for the base (cup base, rebated boat tail) separate at $50 each. You have the diameter you need, you can change the nose design and base design for a totally different design. For me, I can't do that. The nose shape is machined into the die, not a nose punch. If I want to change a nose shape, I need a new $485 die. For you, $150 can change both the nose and the base.

Nation,

For those of you that are interested, I will be at the Pyramyd Air Cup from Thursday through Sunday. I will have free samples of approximately 50 pellet lots. They will all be a generic 15.05 grain hollowpoint, 3/4 ogive, flat base, in .1775 only. Find me at the shoot, hit me up for some. If any Nation members would like a particular weight or design to test, let me know, and I'll definitely try to accommodate your request.
