Feral pig problem

Here in Hawaii we have a major problem with feral pigs, they are destructive & dangerous. There is no "season" or "limit". Most of the locals hunt them with dogs and knives, which is pretty inhumane in my opinion. I've taken a few with my bow, but I find an airgun much more effective. The only drawback is that hunting with an airgun is only permitted on private land here.

I took down this sow in my backyard last year. Swift custom Rapid with a .25 caliber H&N Barracuda pellet.

I hope you get a chance to shoot every last one of them! Eradication is the only answer to preserve those beautiful islands. Oh, and while your at it knock off some chickens too! They crow all night and take away the late night ambiance.

Hay Michael where did you aim for behind the ear ? dkl said he wish he had that problem , don't think he understands how desturective they are and they breed like rats , they are bad in the lower part of S.C.

Generally I wait for the temple shot. Half way between the eye & the ear is where the skull is the softest. Also in between the eyes and about an inch above. But for that shot it helps to be in an elevated position and shoot when the hog has its head down so that it's a perpendicular shot. Otherwise the pellet will simply skip off their skull.

Maybe we can get Manny to post the cross section of a skull thats cut in half. Its pretty neat.

There was an incident near here (Ottawa) where 22 pigs escaped a farm. The Natural Resources Ministry went crazy and all but begged hunters to track them down. They dropped all of their usual heavy handed restrictions and in the end all of them were "accounted" for.
As much as I'd like to be able to hunt pigs, I don't want the problem and habitat destruction they bring.

I would love to hunt one with an airgun, I am thinking of doing a Texas trip next year. The outfitters seem to be leery of airguns though.
