F10 Shoebox or Omega Air Charger compressor

Heard a lot of good things about the Omega Air Charger. I have the Super Charger and if I ever get another one it will be the air charger. The Air Charger is basically the same as the Super Charger minus some of the bells and whistles like the timer and automatic bleeder, but I have heard that it actually fills a tank faster than the Super Charger. My Super Charger was shipped to me with a crack in the piston rod from AoA, sent it back and had Todd work on it and it hasn't given a speck of trouble since. Have about 140 hours on it and it just keeps putting along. Maintenance is almost non existant, just keep the water level correct and twist the grease knob one click clockwise every 6 hours. Never change the oil.

Both compressor are slow. But shoebox is way slower. Watch YouTube videos of reviews on it. People said it takes 10 hours to fill a large cf tank with the shoebox. Do you really want to wait that long to fill a tank? The Omega is a little faster but still slow compare to a yong yong heng, air Venturi compressor. We can't tell you what to buy but I can say go for what your wallet can afford. If you can afford $2000 compressor. Get the daystate compressor. It will fill a tank in about an hour and to top it off like 15 to 20 mins. If not there are the hatsan light that is $1093 on field supply, that is about as fast as the daystate for half the cost.

I own a f10 and can confirm that it will top off a Joe B. Tigershark sized tank in about 1 hour 45 minutes. This would likely be faster with a better shop compressor. I have a very small 2 gallon 100 psi unit that refuses to die ... I purchased my f10 used here and have zero regrets.

I can top off my great white tank from Joe in 20 mins or less with my yong heng. For a $200 compressor. Nothing beats it for the price.

No experience with an Omega but I've had a AV for three years this month. I've had a lot of trouble with it. It like the YH, Hatsan and probably the Omega are fast to fill an SCBA but if you've spent weeks and dollars with down time that Shoebox would've of filled the bill. I already owned a nice 30gal shop compressor so I purchased a F10 about three weeks ago. I also got my AV up and compressing as well as new but I know there's going to be that next breakdown. Might be on the next fill or 6-12 months from now but it WILL happen. It's sure is nice to know I have the SB ready to go. I haven't had a tank pulled down far enough for a good run on the SB but from what I have seen it seemed pretty fast too me. Faster than what I was expecting. Not a 17-20min top off time but heck, I'm not in that big of hurry. Oh, the 30gal shop compressor hardly ever runs. I'll post more when I get a better run time.

Not going to be in a big hurry. Plus I have 3 tanks over 74cuft and 2 tanks that are 90 cu in. Only time I will need a lot of air is when setting a big bore up with new optics.

For the money I don’t think you can beat a SB or an Altaros booster (I own the Altaros) Never had an issue with it. It’s slow, yes, but very reliable. I’m sure one day I will have to re-build it. From what I hear, it’s easy to do. If the workshop compressor goes, that’s just a quick trip to the local Home Depot for me. God only knows I don’t want to be shipping a broken heavy unit back & forth all the way across the CONUS.

Thank you for all the info. Looked into the Altaros Booster and like what I seen on it. I located one here in the states that was new and bought it. Hopefully it should be just after the first of the year. I liked the design of it better then the shoebox. Hopefully I will not regret not getting the compressor instead. Hope everyone had a great Christmas and a great New Year. Bring on 2020 now.

A booster is tough on a compressor and slow as hell. Buy the best compressor you can afford. The initial cost of the compressor will be recouped over time.

I have a contractor style dual tank compressor and in the process of rewiring my shop to run a commercial compressor. Got tired of running out of air running air tools and sand blaster.

My booster was an Altros that I was running with a $3000.00 compressor at 145psi. When your running a compressor for hours on end to fill a bottle a booster will task even the biggest compressor. A booster is fine for filling a gun but it is not worth a flip for bottles. My booster had a catastrophic failure before the warranty ran out and the company would not honor the warranty. Save yourself some grief and get a real compressor.

I had a Altaros as well and ran it off a 30gal Husky shop compressor. It seem to work fine but it did cycle quite a bit with the Altaros because some of the shop air is used to drive the booster. The Shoe Box on the other hand doesn't waste any air since it is motor driven. I topped off a 75cuft SCBA yesterday with my new SB from 3400 to 4550 and the shop compressor only cycled on twice. It took 1hr and 25min to fill but hey, what's the hurry. So far I've been really pleased with it and it's nice to know that if I ever need any help or parts that it's right here in good'O USA.

"It took 1hr and 25min to fill but hey, what's the hurry."

That seems to be the separation of the boosters from even the cheapest compressors. If one doesn't mind such time periods then something reliable and easily serviceable like a Shoebox could well be the best option for them. Other shooters might not appreciate the wait and would prefer a faster, if possibly less long term reliable, process. All relative, as many things are.
