Extreme hollow points

I was plinking at my indoor 8 yard pellet trap and just for the heck of it I loaded a pellet backwards to see if it was accurate. I was amazed to find that they are very accurate loaded backwards out of my HW30 .22 at 8 yards. The last six shots on the bottom are the same .22 pellet as all of the above shots, only loaded backwards.

Imagine the shock effect on a mouse or rat lol. The skirt cuts a perfect hole.

I’m going to try it today at 15 yards lol! I’m going to be very surprised if they reach the target backwards. I think at 8 yards they just have no time to start to destabilize, but with the weight in back and the big cup catching air I don’t see how they could stay stable. Very important work here! I’ll report back with the results lol!

Pretty surprising really, I just shot at 14 yards with the pellets loaded backwards and got the same results, much more accurate than I thought it would be. And I was amazed how straight they went into the wood. I’m going to try at 25 yards and concentrate on accuracy to see how well the “extreme hollow points” work lol! Now to try this with my RedWolf!! Just kidding 😂

The bark was shot with the inner brown part being the target, you can see it knocked out a big section of bark on the other side. I’d like to see it in ballistic gel lol. Ok experimenting is over, time for work.

Many of us old far...timers have tried this over the years with the same results, they are reasonably accurate at close range but get quite erratic beyond 20-25 or so yards. Wadcutters are similiar, very accurate within mabey 30 yds but beyond they can get ugly quickly!! However keep experimenting, one never knows when a break thru might develope as we all know, todays pellets are not the same that our fathers and grandfathers used!!

Good stuff!

Reminds me of back when there was a rat problem in the garage because the lady next door would never pick up the rotten fruit from her trees. I tried loading Crosman wadcutters backwards in the QB77 and found that they grouped okay at eight yards. With the 4X32 scope and a red lens on the mounted mini-maglite, that rifle laid waste to the rat population with those backwards wadcutters. The rats would tumble a few yards, but the pellet would never exit.

Be safe,

J~

So why would you want to do this ???

I like many others dont have hollow points on hand due to their inaccuracy. On rare ocassions we come upon a closeup shot where extra impact is needed, nice to know I can turn a pellet backwards and get that little extra impact. I take out birds from local farmers barns when they become a pest. On ocasion a rat might pop out, I have a much better chance of stopping him long enough for a followup shot with this hollow point conversion than hitting him with my domed pellet from my low powered 75TO1 rifle. And like so many other curious folks we just wanted to try it and see what would happen!

So I got curious...

Having a QB77 in hand, some wadcutters and a yard to shoot in, I set a target out at 18-yards. These are with Crosman Copperhead wadcutters dating from the mid-nineties. The gun ran out of gas with the first group, so it was gassed back up and another group was shot. These are much better groups than either of my 760's will shoot at that distance. Looks like the chipmunks will be tumbling soon.

Be safe,

J~

Here's three shot at 22 yards there 25 caliber h&n ftts. They're only moving about 650 ft per second when they leave the muzzle if that. All three landed tail first just like they should you can tell by the rings where the lead Mark the paper they just going so slow they didn't tear it cleanly. But shot backwards they are doing about a 2-inch group. Shot front words though shoot well under an inch.
