Events Extreme Benchrest 9.5 – Lockdown Edition

ADJUSTMENT ON POINTS.....I didn't know a near miss was a 3...Every point counts against you lot! Lol

What can I say…What a hoot I had…Thank you!

With many hours and lots of lead flung out my impact .177 sub 12 ft down range plus over the crony…I was forced to shoot in my worse wind direction…Strait in the EBR Van. Ha ha.

Ho hum I just cracked on as the long range forecast was looking really pants. So 31 mph gusts it was to be then. Scoring 182 on the 75 and 139 yard on the 100 yard.

Well done and good luck to all.

Best Regards and stay safe folks!

First time doing anything like this as I've never competed. I've been into pcps for only a few years now but have had break barrels for over 20 years. I practiced a few times at 100 in the weeks leading up to actually hitting the official cards and surprised myself. Needless to say i kinda bombed when it came time to shoot the cards. Still was great fun and I'm getting better every time out and always learning something new. I hope to start competing when this covid crap blows over. 212 4x at 75 and 201 3x at 100 using avenger .22 18gr jsb. Horrible fold out table for my bench lol

First I want to thank Airguns of Arizona and all the sponsors for opening this up to everyone stuck at home this year! This has been a truly great gift for me personally as it has provided a project to occupy my body and mind at a time when just such a distraction has been severely needed.

Here’s my submission. Shot with my gen. 2 Benjamin Marauder in .22 with (possibly one of Jim Gaska’s last) MMHF barrel, a Lane reg with a JSAR gen. 2 SS valve, and some Tim Hill bits and pieces sprinkled in, shooting JSB Exact Jumbo Heavy 18.13 gr.

Scored 218 with 3 x’s at 100 yards and 215 with 1 x at 75 (scored with a .22 Eagle Eye gauge). Nowhere close on the 100 yard pellet challenge and when I shot the 75 there was a low berm in the way and I couldn’t even see the challenge box.

Thanks again to the organizers, sponsors, everyone behind the scenes (you know who you are!), and all the participants for making this happen!

Good evening everyone ! Waiting for the release of the Brazilian Customs. Targets are already in Brazil awaiting release! We are concerned with receiving this content before the closing of 30 November. But confident that despite the delay of the post office in Brazil, we will receive in time to participate in this Grand Event !! Congratulations to the organizers! Great shots! Success Health and Peace ALWAYS Amen 🙏🙌🏆🎯🌵

Well, we’ve successfully held Extreme Benchrest 9.5 Russia. And it was really Extreme. We’ve met rain and stormy wind (up to 10 meters per second (23 miles per hour) in the open field with 7C (46F) temperature and had to shoot in that conditions. But the main thing is that we had fun and everyone was satisfied. The winner was determined by the sum of 75 and 100 yards score cards.

I’ve managed to take the first place.

In the second part of the film (coming up soon) you will see our experiment – shooting EBR targets on 100 and 150 yards with slugs.

Those videos are in Russian, but they are not to listed, but to watch – enjoy those crazy Russians shooting 😊

Congrats on the win. Looks like an EEBR! Extreme Extreme Bench Rest.
Did you consider weighting the 75 yard score more lightly, say 1/2 of score? Reason I ask is because just adding the two gives less weight to the 100 yards score, when the 100 is much more difficult and should count more than the 75. Just a thought. Thanks for posting, looks like a fun time.

Mike, thank you. The only reason why we shoot 75 and 100 yards target is the rules of EBR 9.5 (we have to shoot 2 cards).

There are not many of us shooting as you can see, so there is no need to make 75y pre-final shooting, we can go all together straight to 100y distance.

All those coefficients and so on is not correct as for me, they make things arguable so to say. We just reached an agreement to count the scores like that this time. I think that we will continue shooting EBR-like events here, but due to not so many participants we will do it at 100 yards distance from the very beginning.

Thanks, that’s what we did at my TexTreme Benchrest. We shot only at 100 Yards. I dhot in an event a couple years ago where they weighted the 75 and 100 yards cards the same, and it caused lots of issues. Because 75 is much easier than 100, we wanted them to take 1/2 or 2/3 of the 75 yards score and add it to the 100 yard score. Easiest just to shoot everything at 100 yards.

No, Steve, we didn't camp. All those yellow shelters were set up to protect us (our airguns) from rain. And we didn't have any camp fire there.

We arrived before the sunrise to set up the target's stands and prepare everything, and left before the sunset.

Smart move! Nothing worse than freezing your ass off, aye??!! I would have been really shaky in those temps and winds.

EBR 9.5 in the Northeast!

We were having a Great stretch of weather here in the Northeast, so no better time to shoot our Extreme Benchrest 9.5 - Lockdown Edition targets! A quick decision was made and 3 of us got together to make it happen. This past Monday (11/9) we descended on a backyard in the Northern fringes of Finger Lakes Region of New York to give EBR a try! Now, we all shoot field target and are inexperienced to say the least when it comes to benchrest.

The range was set! 75 yard target on the left and 100 yard on the right

0001.1605376950.jpg

The weather was temperature in the mid 70’s. light variable winds from 4 - 8 mph and mostly sunny.

First up is Paul Manktelow. Paul shot the targets using his FX Crown 0.177………….yep, his 0.177 Hunter PCP field target rifle!! The rifle is topped with a Hawke FFP 6-24x50.

0002.1605376975.JPG

Some time earlier in the day was set aside to shoot some practice targets and get a feel for the holds and clicks for the 75 and 100 yard targets. Paul shot his 75 yard target first and the results were a 190 w/ 1X using a 0.30” diameter scoring device.

0003.1605376994.jpg

0004.1605377023.JPG

0005.1605377049.jpg

Next up was Paul’s 100 yard target attempt. Shooting the 0.177 that additional 25 yards definitely opened things up a bit…….but not too bad! The score for Paul’s 100 yard target was 131 w/ 0X. Definitely not bad shooting with the 10.3 gr JSB’s at 890 fps in the slight to moderate breeze.

0006.1605377118.jpg

Next up was myself, Greg Shirhall. I had every intention to be using my 0.22 Air Venturi Avenger, but it was not cooperating. I’d have a shot right on, then have one go 2 mil-dots in a whole different who knows direction. So, the set-up of choice was my wifes 0.22 Falcon FN-19 topped with a Mueller 8-32x44 and I was using an older tin (the silver label ones) of JSB 15.8gr Jumbos.

0007.1605377167.JPG

Now, don’t laugh! As you can see by the tree shadows, the sun was coming straight at us, so I fabbed a sun shade out of a 8.5” x 11” 75 yard sample target. It worked PERFECTLY!

My first target was my 100 yard target/ Had a 168 w/ 2X. Definitely a difference that additional 25 yards make!!

0008.1605377196.jpg

Next up was my 75 yard target. Now if only my very last 5 shots started appearing much earlier! Finished up with a 216 w/ 4X. Hit the pellet challenge right at the cross of the “T”..nope, didn’t get that pesky pellet!

0009.1605377230.jpg

00010.1605377254.jpg

The remaining shooter of our group for the day was Doug Rogers. Doug used a 0.22 RTI Prophet that he was testing out. It was topped with A Sightron SIII 10-50x60. He chose a tin of JSB 25.39gr redesigned. This was the first time Doug shot this beyond 20 yards. A quick sight-in session and it was time to shoot for score.

00011.1605377277.jpg

Dougs first target was the 75 yarder. He ended with a 191 w/ 0X. Not bad for for the first time shooting the RTI at distance and not a bunch of pellet testing to see what she eats the best.

00012.1605377302.jpg

00013.1605377326.jpg

Last but not least and with the sun fading, Dougs 100 yard attempt yielded a 141 w/0X.

A BIG thanks goes out to Airguns of Arizona for putting on this event! With the way this whole year has gone and continues to go, this got us, and I’m sure many others, out of our normal comfort zone and out competing in something we probably wouldn’t have tried. We all had a great time! Thanks again AOA!!!

Well, I have to thank AOA for the opportunity to shoot the 9.5 EBR. What a great idea! I, like many out there, have seen the videos and wondered what it would be like to shoot at these events. To simply say this was humbling somehow doesn’t quite do it justice. Shot the 75yd target on November 8th while it was rainy and breezy. I scored it at 189 points , 2x, and I skipped a target like the dufus I am. Shot the 100yd target on November 14th under much better conditions. I scored that one at 187 points, 0x, and I forgot the pellet challenge...like the dufus that I am....

Targets were all shot by me with my Air Arms s500 FAC in .22 using JSB 18.13s....sorry for my iPad putting the pics sideways. The wrinkly target was the 75yd shot in the rain last weekend.
