EVOL & Alpha Wolf go hunting (video update)

Marley, Terry and I went out for an overnight trip up into the mountains to hike around and do some hunting in one of my favorite spots. The weather was perfect with a bit of a breeze that cooled things down a bit in the afternoon. I loaned Terry my AAA EVOL mini to use for what I figured would be a good amount of hiking around. I brought my Daystate Alpha Wolf in .30 caliber that I figured would be nice to use for some of those further shots on the many Jackrbbits that roam the area. I had brought one of my large canvas tents for us to stay in, it's essentially like a small apartment.

It was later in the afternoon but we still had a good three hours of light to where we could get some hunting in on both the ground squirrels and jackrabbits.

This area is a great habitat for the ground squirrels but does require a bit of hiking to get to the few pockets that have them.

We found a few of these squirrels moving about on some deadfall at just under 50 yards where Terry was able to take down several with the mini, with Marley eagerly waiting to retrieve.

Moving on we headed further into the mountains and out of the tree line where I have in the past encountered many large populations of Jackrabbits.

I was able to spot three all in one area and ended up going for one that was stopped at 80 yards just behind some sagebrush. They do hide very well but those ears are usually a "DEAD" giveaway.

The 43gr NSA did it's job with heart/lung shot!

Moving on I collected my kill and followed Terry and Marley up the hill in the direction the other two were headed. The terrain got much more rocky and with the thick sagebrush the visibility was difficult.

Terry was finally able to spot one that was sitting still at 30 yards where he was able to make a successful shot.

As you can see from the photo they blend in extremely well in this type of environment.

By this time it was late evening and we still had a ways to hike back to camp, it really is a beautiful location.

Back at camp I fired up the wood stove and pulled out the cooking gear.

Overall it was a great trip and the fact we both had some luck made it even better. Hope to head out again in the coming weeks and will share more when possible.
*Here is the full video of the trip including the following day of my flying solo.
