Evol .30 My 1st Time Ever Shooting 100 Yards

@ezana4ce I learned a lot of useful information on pellet sorting and sizing from @tominco that is for sure. He is an accomplished competition shooter.

I use this Frankfort Arsenal scale for sorting. But you can find grain scales at most of the big box sporting goods stores in major cities like Cabela's, Gander Outdoors, and Sportsman's Warehouse.

Thanks. I was wondering if a grain scale would be appropriate. I was under the impression that they’re used to weight powder for reloading.

Wow! Huge improvement, those would all be heart/lung shots on a deer for sure. I’d say that’s really good, nice shooting.

Thanks Dave. I wish I could have used this during deer season. I don’t think it’s capable of the legal state requirement for airguns so I have to go with larger calibers tuned to sling heavy pills in order to meet the FPE regulation.

I was pretty happy with how the shoot concluded for my first time out that far. There’s so much more I’d like to learn. Thankfully I’ve made some solid connections on AGN and I have the opportunity to glean from more experienced shooters from various backgrounds. I’d like to take my time and focus on developing better habits.

At it again this afternoon with some 7-10 wind gusts first shot was about 6” wide right and about 3” low without using windage holdovers. Second shot went left an inch and about ¾” low Third shot hit about ½” to the right using windage and elevation holds three other shots went left off target, two of which shredded the tape on the side of the target off about 3 ½”-4” left. This is challenging but fun.

I’m still shooting from standing behind the tripod.

In the event that someone wants to question the distance here you go. This was a PITA to capture holding my phone up to the rangefinder and timing the reading.

The seventh shot hit 1/2” low. Wind changed directions and I adjusted accordingly based upon my best estimation looking at a piece of string tied to the end of my barrel I’m also using DOPE info from my first 100 yard shooting session

Chronographed my second group for DOPE record. One shot didn’t register. I’m not sure if the app was connected yet.

Three wide shots. The other five are acceptable to me. Looks like progress.

Each of the six targets measure 4” in diameter (I checked them against my calipers and the targets and my caliper measurements match). I’m using 16x magnification on a SFP Bushnell Nitro 6-24x50mm Deploy MOA scope. I don’t know why was thinking this was an MRAD scope.

So today I decided to go out in frequent 15-20 mph wind gusts shooting pellets at 100 yards. The results are embarrassing. I did try to film it so I could look at how and when the wind affected my shots. I haven’t gotten the hang of my scope cam yet so most of my video came out terrible. I was really hoping to get a chance to review how I managed a near bullseye vitals shot on a groundhog target. Just about all of my other shots on that target were misses or it made me look like a sadistic sniper on a battlefield trying to use a wounded soldier to bait others rushing out to assist him. Some of my holdovers were nuts. Anyhow just thought I’d share that for those of you, like @JimNM, who tried to warn me about the wind. This was nothing like shooting at 50 yards. Fun stuff though.

HI I also own an EVOL 30 , mine just loves heavy slugs , here is some 100 yd groups , and yes I tie wind ribbons to my moderators this helps me

My evol likes slugs better then pellets at 100yds and beyond

Mine took a bit of tuning to get it shooting sub MOA , Great gun .

never loses POI great barrel tensioning system , All my targets shot off my ALLVets tripod

As you can see from 52 gr to 66 gr all groups sub moa , and light stuff was a bit over 2.5 inches , Try heavy slugs You will be impressed just how well they shoot ,Note I shot some of Bobs 52 gr they shot not so well I tried something and squared the slugs up in my lathe in a collet and wow they shot 200% better I guess casting them they were not square where spruce plate cut them I took off just a few thousands and they went from over 2 inches to .36 of an inch , I also tried sizing them but squaring them was key ,

@jwrabbit123 That’s a nice looking tripod. You’re definitely more advanced than I am in this department. The last group is amazing! That’s some damn looking good tripod work.

I’d like to get more comfortable with understanding how pellets behave and their limitations at longe range. Although I have been dabbling with slugs just to compare how they group. I’m still trying to improve at reading the wind. Watching some of what you’re able to do you motivated me jump out there and start trying to learn. I’m just getting started.
