Skout Everything Skout EVO and Epoch

Hi
Thank you for your reply, our numbers agree with the stock air stripper, so I know I am not doing something wrong.
Because I am in Europe and returning it will be a huge nuisance, I am trying to find a way to better it's non existing moderation.
I am currentrly printing a .25 pipe with holes for the air to escape to the baffles( i plan to insert it from end to end).
The thinking is that maybe because it's a .30 cal it might not work well with a .22 ,I will let you know if it makes a difference.
Thank you for the stock moderator mod tip.
I would hate to have to buy a Donnyfl Shogun on top of what i have already paid for the Skout moderator

Ok feedback time.
I am attaching photos of the little tube that i printed.
Stock Air Stripper with no pellet 94-96 dB
Stock Whisper Moderator with no pellet 103-106 dB
Wisper Moderator with .25 tube insert and no pellet 93-95 dB.
I cant shoot a pellet today to test that part of it, but it is the first time the Whisper mod is quiter than the stock if only by a little bit.
The metallic kind of clang it was making seems to be gone with the inserted tube.

Sorry I forgot to attach the photos.

Thank you... at least it is quiter now.
I would love to know what decibel reading anyone out there is getting with the similar fpe and .22 cal with their moderators.
Would the donnyfl shogun be the quitest or are there quiter ones.
Thanks
So I liked the Shogun because I could use it for all of my calibers. And the diameter of the moderator matches up perfect with the adapter on the scout barrel.
I think all of them sound pretty good and they’re probably all with a decibel of each other.
I’m sure one that is exactly size for a 22 might be slightly quieter, but I have a small backyard and I have been quite happy with this one.
There is virtually no reviews on the Shogun moderator, but I took a chance and I’ve been quite happy with it.

Cool...thank you for all the info.
The shogun was on my shortlist but i decided to buy the Skout moderator thinking that it would be better suited to the Evo.
They told me that it would be backyard friendly compared to the stock one, unfortunately that is not the case in .22
Now that i have managed to quiten it a little I might try it with a combination of your Polyfill trick.
That is all ok for sound , but I have absolutely no idea what these mods might do to the grouping.
Next weeekend I will be on summer leave and my digital gauges will have arrived by then, I will start to tune it properly and revisit the whole moderator rabbit hole.
Thank you all for all your help.

Interesting as I found the STD stripper really noisy, so I made my own silenced shroud and all I can hear is the spool valve cycling, guess I should try and test it for db, but it will have to be a phone app, I will post tomorrow when I have had a chance to test.

@MSR Workshop have you plugged up the hole in the block that you thought it was leaking from yet?

I haven’t yet. Waiting for a machined part that Motorhead made instead of me filling it with JB weld. Really excited to see how it works though !

Have you attempted to test this with pellets? This will greatly change the result, as the ammo blocks the pathway for the air to come out the front and forces it into the baffling passages.

Hi
If you look at my original post you will see that I did try it with pellets and it was louder than the stock air stripper.
It was a small sample of about 5 pellets each (not in a soundproof room and taking other ambient noises into account, which applied to both scenarios, thereby comparing apples to apples).
I also posted all the specs that I tested it with, if you want to attempt to replicate it your self.
I have not shot the version with the tube that I inserted, with a pellet yet.
However if it is quieter than the original without a pellet , it can only get quieter with a pellet.
Also with the stock whisper moderator, there is a distinct metallic like clang, which goes away with the tube (thus reducing the sound signature).

I think you will find that the metallic clang is the spool valve cycling, be interested to know if it does go as my shroud is very quiet but cannot get rid of the valve sound as it appears to come from the block and not the barrel.

Not sure if I trust this, but I downloaded a random phone DB app and without a pellet I got 77db and with I got 79 DB this is a sub 12 Epoch and the phone was 4" from the end of the barrel/shroud.

Just tried another app which I think is more realistic, and got 96db with no pellet and 99db with!

So I think the app is the deciding factor, Unless you have a properly calibrated DB meter you're just going to get a rough idea, that's all.

You are certainly right about the apps.
I don't have an expensive dB meter ... I think I got it for 50 bucks or something.
But you can certainly do an apples to apples comparison with one.
Now as far as your sub 12 epoch ,now that should be way quieter than the 47 odd fpe that my .22 is pushing.
Also I see your point on the metallic clang being the hammer mechanism ( for lack of a better term) and it probably is true in your case with a sub 12 gun, however I don't think that is the case in mine.
I will try and make videos and sound recordings later in the week, in an effort to better portray what I am hearing.

It's a difficult one as you would think the used pressures would be vastly different between sub 12 and high power, but surprisingly they are not, going by other peoples setups even 30cal at 900fps are not using very different pressures, so in theory the noise difference going by that should also not be big as almost the same amount of air is being moved so it may just be the calibre that make a difference in sound output.
