Everyone really should give FT a try, doesn't matter if you " just hunt", "just shoot for fun" (that one confuses me as all airgun shooting is fun). The nicest folks are involved in Field Target and that has allowed me to try many many airguns I could never afford, airguns you just cant buy, check out scopes/rifles/gizmo's before deciding how to spend my money and meet the nicest people. Not to mention increasing my shooting ability. Used to aim for only head shots (squirrels) now like to aim for their pupil.
And often you can find things face to face with fellow airgunners that are seemingly hard to find online.
Love the Aeon 10-40, know many who have retired the Elites and other more costly scopes with the current run of Aeon scopes. Naturally you need a good side wheel and even really liking the scope, the Aeon sidewheel , to me, is junk, they should drop them entirely and take a dollar off the scope. Lucky a friend at the GOB said he could get Aeon 3d printed sidewheels at a good price so I grabbed one for Tammy (it is her scope). VERY happy with the fit ! It does have three screws but I don't think I'll tighten them. Now I will need to spend a little fun time making a tape for the wheel and range card.

It allows a greater distance between yardage markings on the wheel. That is nice but only helpful if the scope can take advantage of that by being able to snap in and out of focus at the distances marked.

In field target we know the distance by having our sidewheel marked at yardages 10-55 and using the paralax of the scope to measure the distance by turning the sidewheel until the target comes into focus. Then, depending on which class you are shooting in, you apply the appropriate holdover or click your elevation knob the appropriate amount for the measured distance and take the shot. Field target is shot in the US from 10 to 55 yards.

For example, on my USFT, a 17 yard paralax measurement means i adjust 27 clicks down from my zero according to my click chart.... 10 yards measured on my scope is 104 clicks down from zero... my zero is set at 30 yards.

More info than you wanted but that's the basics of it.

There are all kinds of ways to do it. I have seen guys with corresponding clicks or holdovers on the sidewheel next to yardage markings. I don't like doing it that way because if I change something on my rifle or use a different brand or weight of pellet that cause a change in point of impact the tape will be wrong... a range card is easier to update.

Scott, nailed it (as he does with most targets I'm thinking). And certainly you can mark it anyway you like. Personally I would enjoy an over sized elevation knob also and mark it with yardage so say 48(yards) on the side wheel, 48 on the top turret, on and on. Hopefully the Aeon can find it's way on top of the HM1000 .22 and shooting at hunting speeds I'll not be dealing with near Scott's clicks- WFTF right?- . With good glass and no backlash and being able to thumb the side wheel while in 40x and a squirrel click the elev knob to range( many like color added to different ranges) can be very fast and effective.
