Enjoying Sunny Days in Puerto Rico and Dropping Iguanas

Last hunt day update,

Hey all,

Today was our last day hunting. The number wasn't as high, but it was the best day for trophy. My Son didn't get bigger than the one he shot on the first day. As you can see on the pic, the number was still pretty good.

For the last two days, we had the pleasure to meet and hunt with Will and his wife I am sure some of you will recognize him from Louisiana.
At one point on our way back today, while picking up our cold iguanas :), we ended up with a big orange one who jumped from a tree in the front of us. More less 2 feet away from our guide who surprised him. That monster started to run away on his back legs, crossed above the water running and kept on going on the other side. I tried to do a quick scope as it passes 5-6 feet away, but the darn covers were on. That was a cool sighting though..

For me, I shot my two biggest ones today. In the next few days, We should get all our photos and short clips videos. I will update some more to share our fun.

But for now, that is my big one

Papy

That is huge. OMG. Do they make the musical note "I" flat when they hit the ground?

Oh noooo, "I" Flap. Man those suckers are tuff. unless you hit the pea that they use for brain they suck the pellets and keep on moving. We had one of the big one were the guide and I shot seven . 25 rounds in the head, 2 took his jaw off and it was still ticking. They are amazing. They must have some alien in them. Nothing turns them off unless you hit the pea

wow that's amazing great dad also what size pellets you guys using 22 /25 cal

My son and I used .25 jsb .25 gr, we also used h&N: hunter X and hornet

Eric,

I'm glad to see your trip is off to a great start! Keep the pics coming, so we can pretend we are out there with ya'll.

James

Thank you James,

You should have seen the Bullboss in action. My son took one off at 75-80 meters one shot straight to the pea. He had a blast with it. He probably put 700 rounds through it, no issues. He surprisingly did awesome with it shooting off-hands. The Veteran did marvelously to. I discovered that I have some work to do at home. Get a full range 10 to 50 meters off-hand POA curve at low and medium magnification. I could pin anything from 30 m up but the 10 to 25 or so was a pain. I hope you had more luck in your last hunt.

They look tough for sure.. is it possible to hit their vitals ( heart / lung)? I'd love to get a bottle gun ( Crown like Bob_O's) and go hunt them..

From talking to our guide he said that in all the years he hunted them, he only killed one with a body shot and that he must have hit the heart, who again isn't big either. The head shot right behind the eye is the most certain and easy land mark to find. the problem is the size of that darn pea. it isn't easy to hit. A fun and challenging hunt.

is this a invasiv species or are there just too much of them ?

Both, now in PR they have open hunt no bag limits and you don't have to bag them if you don't want. Even if you wanted you couldn't recover all one you have shot. The vegetation is so thick and with nasty thorns that shred you.

That's my kind of shooting!!

@Regarval,

They are iguadilo. Hybrids. ;) We saw even a bigger one that day. It was probably 5'9" to 6'1" from what the guide said. But they don't get big by mistake. That sucker jumped from the top branches into the bushes 15 feet bellow and disappeared. We couldn't get close enough to take the shot before he jumped.

That's great papy, im glad you and your son had a great time!
