Enabling better back yard nighttime hunting/pesting

On the GTA forum, there was a member named Shadow who used to go out 'coon hunting at night. He had a spot in the woods. He'd put bait on the trail and set up a couple of LED lights pointing at it.

About 20 yards away, he'd set up a tent-type blind. Sip his coffee, have a snack and just keep an eye on the trail. It seems like once a week, at least, he'd get a racoon or opossum with a head shot from his tuned medium power springer. Gut 'em there, skin 'em at home, and put 'em in the freezer.

Another guy set up some kind of motion sensing system, in which he'd put some bait and a motion sensor in one area of his lawn, and it would make a dim red light flash inside his room. If he was awake, he'd go outside and see what was there. If it was a pest, it would get its lead pill for the day. If not, he'd go back in or go out and scare them off. That's kind of a complex and expensive set-up, though.

At my house, we sometimes have raccoon problems. I think they may be living under the deck, as there are a LOT of flies in the area. (maybe because of raccoon poop?)

I was thinking about maybe putting out some bait maybe 15 yards out, and have a motion-sensing light on it. The problem is, I don't want to wire that part of the house, just for that. Maybe just a simple trail cam? I figure if I'm up and I see a flash of the trail cam, I'd stalk over with my airgun and inspect.

What do you guys do?

...or if you haven't done anything, what have you thought of doing?
