Embarrassing elevation question

ok - seen it mentioned twice - what the heck is optical center?

The scope is perfect when optically centered the picture is the clearest it can ever be when optically centered.

Ideal to optically center at YOUR typical shooting distance so its always the clearest.

Thanks - I get what you are saying. The optical center of the scopes lenses and the physical center of the tube may not quite line up 100%. So when you do the mechanical halfway through the click range, you're in the middle of something - but not necessarily the ideal optical center.

I don't see how going through that much work matters when you're gonna move the reticle around anyway for elevation and windage. 

I don't compete so I doubt I would benefit from much of a fine adjustment.

Seems it is most useful when using adjustable mounts. I commonly use Sportsmatch mounts and can get nearly exactly on target using the ring adjustments. Then sometimes just a few clicks are needed to get it "exactly right". But your point is well taken, both on the two types of "centering" being different and on the need to adjust the scope anyway.
