Elevation adjustment range: Discovery HD 5-25x50 vs 4-20x50

Hi guys,

I want to buy a Discovery Optics scope from the HD series, and right now I'm down to two options: HD 5-25x50 FFP & HD 4-20x50 FFP. Since I'll be doing a lot of long range shooting (either with a .22LR or a high power .22 PCP, at ranges 400-600 yards) knowing the elevation adjustment range of each one is important to me. (Ideally if the higher power scope is to produce the same image quality as the lower power model then it should offer less elevation travel range)

So I'd really appreciate it if anyone who got either model could tell me how much elevation travel their model has. (Preferably the up/down travel from the mechanical zero of the scope)

P.S.: Honestly in the end I most likely am gonna go with the 5-25x50 model, since either it has a little less adjustment travel (unless something like 5-6 mils more travel which makes the 4-20x50 the winner!), or they have the same travel which means they have the same erector tube diameter (If I'm not wrong, am I wrong?) so the 5-25x50 at the max mag gives a dimmer image than the 4-20x50 at max mag, but that's okay for me for the occasional use, since I'm probably not gonna use it higher than 20x that much.

Thank you in advance.

Hey Dennis, I don't want to step on anybody's toes but I just checked my son's scope. The 4-20x50 has 6 MILS per revolution and the way ours is mounted and set up, we get 2.5 revolutions up and .5 revolutions down for a total of 3 revolutions or 18 MIL. That's a lot of adjustment! Does that sound right, is that what it shows on their website?

I went over to my sons scope and turned the turret both ways until it stopped. It's three full turns at 6 mil per revolution for sure. We have the HD 4-20x50 and love it. It's a great buy for the money! I did a brief review of it when I bought it a while back. You might be able to find the review if you do a search for Discovery Optics HD 4-20x50. It's a very well made scope with good glass and the tracking is accurate if you like to dial elevation, which it sounds like you do. Way more scope than I bargained for at $279!

Good luck! Stoti

P.S. I just noticed the link you posted is from 2 years ago and touts this scope as their top of the line. It isn't anymore, they have quite a few more expensive options now and since it's a 2 year old review, things could have changed in the manufacture of this scope since that review. Just a thought. I can only speak for the scope I have here and what I told you with our scope is accurate.

Could you please tell me what is your setup (rifle, base, mounts, etc.)?

Also what is the distance your scope is zeroed at?

Thank you.
