EGW R5M/Lelya Baffle Kit Quick Review

I got this today to try on my Lelya, which is the one I'd consider using it for since the R5M I have in .25 is pretty quiet in stock form. The Lelya 2.0 in .25 that I have has a bigger sound signature compared to the R5M, mostly due to a shorter expansion chamber past the barrel.

Below you can see that the adapter is anodized aluminum. The stock baffle system as supplied with the gun is a polymer compound and slightly a little lighter. Main difference you'll notice is that the baffle system itself is different.

Below is the Lelya with the DonnyFL Tatsu attached.

Now how do they compare?

Loudest to quietest in this order:
Lelya + moderator adapter -> Lelya + stock moderator -> Lelya + Tatsu -> Lelya + Ronin

Interesting points:

1. The aftermarket adapter baffle system has a higher pitch on its own vs the stock polymer adapter so to my ears it sounds louder. I'd recommend using the aftermarket adapter WITH a moderator, otherwise it's not nearly as effective as the included polymer baffle system.

2. There is very little difference in sound between the Tatsu and Ronin, but the Ronin just edges out the Tatsu by a bit.

Personally I'd rather use the Tatsu which is smaller and lighter vs the Ronin unless I REALLY was worried about noise output.

3. The Ronin and Tatsu produce a lower pitch to the sound, which in turn makes the shot sound quieter to my ears.

In conclusion, I'd consider getting this adapter if you're worried about noise output on the R5M or Lelya - it works!

But, the stock moderator is surprisingly quiet as is and you may not need it depending on your shooting surroundings.

I plan on updating this thread with a sound meter test using my phone when I get a chance in a few days.

I put one on my R5M standard .25 cal. and I used a Ronin like NoLand above. It's pretty quiet stock to begin with, and this does make it more quiet.

I agree with NoLand on the stock baffles vs this one with just the baffle in. There is a different sound to the metal one. I'll be messing more with mine this weekend, and will give a better update.

I like your setup. How are you enjoying your Discovery Scope?

I really like it. I have the VT-T 4.5-18X44 SFVF too, which I got when I purchased my rifle. I like these scopes. The only complaint I have about the compact is there is no indication on the turrets for up, down, left, right, which I found odd. But the manual had the information, and I will probably mark it myself somehow.
