What effect does lengthening a projectile have on it's stability? Specifically, I'm wondering if longer slugs need to be spun faster or slower than shorter slugs to achieve stability.
Round ball in my muzzleloader needs to spin more slowly than maxi ball ammo. Spin the ball too fast and it looses accuracy. Can shoot the maxi ball much faster and keep stability. The maxi ball had a considerablely better BC, so relation between fps and rpm stays much closer during time in flight.
+1 to what Loren emphasized. Spin stabilized projectiles are MUCH harder to 'dial' in perfectly, even more so when shooting at sub sonic velocities such as we do in airguns, opposed to their drag stabilized cousin the Diablo pellet.
