edgun R5m slug

Buy a few different weights of Nielsen slugs and a few different weights of Varmint Knockers and try them all to see what shoots the best with your gun. After the initial go-round, fine tune your gun to the particular slug that shoots the best. Nielsen 33.5, 36.2 and 38.5 as well as the Varmint Knocker 31.5, 32.8 and 34 all work well in my guns. It would be a good starting point and give you a fair range of slugs to start with for initial testing. It's not usually like as with pellets where you pop in a JSB or H&N and it just shoots great from the get go. Slugs almost always require some sort of tuning with either the hammer spring or regulator to optimize performance. Some guns shoot a particular slug at 840fps well, while others might like that same slug at 930fps and still other guns might not shoot it well at all. Take your time, take notes, write down all of your settings, be patient and have fun!

So has anyone successfully run these slugs through an r5m with no mods to the chamber type area? I ask because I was advised against by the importer. At the time he didn't feel there were any slugs bigger than the hn ones (31 grain grizzlies) that would fit. I tried them, they chambered stiff and shot crappy. Experiment over. Unless and until I get a slug barrel to swap out I wont' be cramming slugs where they don't fit. Too expensive for me to screw up. I think it would be good to check in with nsa or your dealer before spending money on slugs. I look forward to hearing of any new developments in this area though. Good luck and keep us posted.

A couple of months ago I saw where a gentleman was running slugs really well out of his R5M. Now for the life of me I cannot find the posts.

I do know he sold it a short time later. I'll continue to hunt for the post. He had some awesome expansion with the slugs he was using. I'll try the hunting section next.

I was hoping someone would step and give you some solid answers.
