No doubt the hammer, valve, transfer port and breech are below the shooters ear in the R5M design. Well lubricated, properly sized orings eliminates air noise. Using as light of reg pressure as possible for a given tune reduces the hammer slap. The ping you read of is not from the hammer. It is from air tube resonance. That can be totally eliminated with a simple depinger if it bothers you.
I recently removed the Huma power plenum and reg to attempt a tune (stock) with the 34s on my R5M Long. I was surprised when I got to my target of 855 fps that I have very little ping... even without a depinger.
