EdGun Matador and fragile wires

Had to pop the top off my fancy electronic gauge to replace the battery today. As gentle as I was a wire broke off, started looking at the other wires and 2 more broke off. After looking at the soldering job it was very poorly done. Actually, the solder job was ok, it was the wire itself that failed at the solder joint. It looked like only a couple of strands were in the solder. Now to repair it and solder this up correctly. You would think that a limited edition (one of 700) would have had some special care during the build.

I had to add a battery to mine from the get go. No battery was installed so I picked one up. I had no problem with the wires but can see if they were not stripped properly it could be a problem. My original battery was eventually found loose in the shipping box.

My biggest problem with electronic gauge was getting that vinyl face plate to seat properly in colder weather. I ended up soaking mine in warm water, dried it off and it snapped right in. It does seem most folks found the electronic gauge not worth the hassle and switched to a Wika. It is kind of a neat feature though.
