Edgun Matador.25 caliber Huma Magnumi

Edgunwest with the help of Airborne Arms NZ took a standard Edgun Matador that was originally designed to fire the JSB/Edgun 25.39 pellets, from what I was told the 33.95 pellets were too inconsistent. Brian from Edgunwest with Phil of Airborne Arms NZ came up with a solution to make it possible to be a 200 yard shooter with the heavier pellet.
What they did was replace the standard regulator with one made my Huma with the assistance of Phil. They also added a small brass weight to the hammer. I’m not sure of anything else that was done.

I have not yet taken it to the range just been shooting in my yard. But after the holidays I will definitely be testing it’s limits Currently I have it sighted it in at 50 yards and at that range everthing goes in one hole.
i just shot a series of 40 shots each with JSB king heavy diablo and the mark ll plus the Edgun pellets which look exactly like the king heavy. I found the results to be about the same using all 3. They came right out of the can I did no sorting or weighing.

Great to finally get some feedback from an end user, loads of these kits were sent out and I have heard almost nothing.
"No news is good news" I guess..
I use mine every day and it is a surgical hammer! I just smashed my personal best PCP long range kill (242 yards) with a 286y pigeon that was feeding out in a freshly ploughed maize field.. It took a couple of shots to get on target but the dust splash made it easy to dope wind and land the shot. 

Looking at your shot strings, your gun could do with some fine tuning.. 
5 bar less on the regulator and a fine tune on the HST will give you a tighter shot string and about 50 shots. aim for an average speed of 910fps and it will shoot great at 200y. 
I found those Edgun labeled pellets from Brian with the small skirt punch perform the best in my gun and give the best consistency. out to 100y it's hard to see any difference between the mk1 Mk2 and Edgun pellets. 
This kit actually really benefits all guns not just the magnum tunes, no need to fit the hammer weight on the lighter pellets but it enables you to reduce your reg pressure from 130bar to 115-120bar and reduce the HST when shooting the 18gr .22cal or 25 kings in the .25cal. It shoots the same targeted 900-910fps to which makes a very quiet gun and lifts the shot count and efficiency dramatically.
I have found accuracy increases also as without the tenacious firing cycle of the std 130bar reg and hard hitting hammer. All ping disappears and the shot strings get real tight.
Im about to set up a .22cal with the heavy .25gr pellets too. Sing out if I can help with anything.

Phil,
Thanks for the tip on adjusting the regulator. For tweaking the HST what direction should I turn it and how much. I’ll do it and repost my results.

Only very small turns on the hst, less than 1/4 at a time, CCW decreases velocity and CW increases. start with the small reg adjustment though as it may not require any further HST adjustment.

Congrats on one hell of a shooter Brian! Wingman, I am looking forward to your .22 results. I may look to this upgrade down the road for my .22 short if the 25.4's prove accurate at long range. Right now I'm not fiddling with my gun though as it is an absolute tack driver!

This would be excellent. I thought about building a jig with upside down weaver mounts on it so I can clamp my action in (upside down) it to adjust the HST and shoot over the chrony. As it is now I have to put my stock back on after EVERY adjustment because I cannot hold the action steady enough to shoot over the chrony and get consistent results. All it would take is a 1" or 30mm tube (depending on the rings you use) mounted on a flat, wide base. I've actually got some spare UTG rings, I may have to do this.

I just lowered the Huma down to 132.5 it was set at 137.5 by Edgunwest as received. Tomorrow am I will run a string and adjust the HST as needed to get to 910 FPS. I’m assuming if 1 turn doesn’t do it where it consistently shoots at 910 FPS I should lower the regulator a bit more.

I was told that the standard Edgun Matador no matter what length was designed just to handle the 25 g JSB the 34 grain was not be handle well . I have not experimented with them yet at the range . I suggest you contact Brian at Edgunwest to get an answer.

"LabGuy"I have a question. Is that power kit needed to shoot King Heavies accurately? Do they perform good below 800FPS? If not then what is the difference in accuracy at 50 yards for Heavies at below 800FPS vs 910FPS? Thanks.

I have yet to see the 34gr shoot well in a factory set matador. The 34gr design inherently likes speed and a faster twist so just doesn't do well at 800 to 830fps (factory matador maxed out) 

Both my .25cal matador R3s shot all versions of the JSB 34gr pellets terribly at 800 to 830fps. 
The following three 50 yard targets were typical of the 34gr at this low speed in my matadors.

With the kit fitted and the 34gr pellet tuned to 910fps it is a different gun. Its no longer stressed out and its a joy to shoot. 50 yard groups are a very small ragged hole and 100 yard groups are a consistent sub inch with 10 shots.

I have also managed several 1/2 MOA groups at 200y but 1 MOA is closer to the norm.

Thanks for starting this thread Brian, looking forward to seeing your results. Good to have Wingman on board for advice. Also anxious to see .22 testing of the 25.39's. 

I received my .25 EDgun long Huma Magnum from EDgunwest on 11/13. Ran 2 mags over my Caldwell G2 using weight sorted (33.30-33.39) JSB MKII 33.95's. Notice true Muzzle Velocity at bottom, one of the things I like about the G2. 
Did some further chrono testing, including BC, a couple days ago using JSB King Heavies, JSB MKII's and EDgun MKII's. Will post results later today.

Yes they do, they were clearly unstable at the lower speed in my barrel. I could see them spiraling. They all shoot very similar now at 100y right out of the tin. 
At 100y they all shoot about 1" average without any sorting. 
For the guys that want to push them a bit further its definitely worth testing a few different versions and batches and give them a quick sort. 
The Mk1s Ive tested seemed to be a little more inconsistant in weight and size compared to the mk2s Ive tested but Im sure this varies from batch to batch just like the lighter JSBs. 

Its important to keep your barrel and choke clean though as it fouls with lead very quickly in this set up. I found a light spray with silicone lube in the tin helps prolong barrel leading without any diverse effects on accuracy.
