ED-Gun .25 SUPER MAG , MAKING A NEW SLUG BARREL

Just read this , This tool just came in today I am crowning barrel as we speak and will get some groups as a few been asking , i was delayed as getting my tooling to crown , I did get .257 pilot in brass I had to machine it down to just slide into barrel , and I did cut it . I will assemble as try it over weekend .

As far as .25 acp slugs yes you can use then and size them down , or they wont fit into breech and most 25 calibers are really .257 good for a .257 conversion , but for a .25 slug they need to be a bit smaller , you dont want to size this much off they become inaccurate

I got some great results with the 31g RatSniper RBT hollowpoints & the OEM barrel.

These are 10 shot groups at 50y in 12-19 mph winds (semi-protected range) at 900 fps & 950 fps.

I bumped it up to 980 fps but the hammer was overpowering the valve & it was out of harmony, groups opened up to 0.9". I'll have to turn up the reg to shoot them over 1000 fps or heavier slugs.

So far I'm pretty impressed with these hollow point RBT's. I imagine they would cause quite a bit of destruction at 950 fps!

Nice results at 50 wow 10 shots too, did you get a chance to streeeeetch them out? 100y? And yeah should make a mess of anything inside 180y probably.

Here is first group before any tuning just install barrel and shot slugs . ( my pellet tune was edgun regulator at 135bar) . I shot 1 group at 70m and 2 groups at 100M

Next groups I will install Huma reg and set at 140 bar to get slugs moving faster .

That's really good for that distance and right off the hop, looking forward to seeing some gold once its tuned! I did something somewhat similar put an unchoked LW poly .22 in my Royale for slugs as well. I did the McGyver method for crown and leade (brass screw and lapping compound) seems to have worked out pretty good and both pellets and slugs are stable out to 200m. Awesome project and excellent platform to begin with!

Awesome. That’s the results we were hoping for. Hopefully you get a chance to stretch them out a bit and post similar results.

Nice groups more than enough accuracy for my "hunting" need with more power and a better BC than pellets. BTW anyone know the BC of these 31g Rat snipers?

Michael is that with a 25 super mag with a stock regulator, barrel and other parts?

What's the difference between a 25 super mag and a R5M long?

I plan on doing some BC work with my Labradar.

Model: R5 Supermagnum. Specs (compared to r5 long): OAL 34", longer barrel, longer shroud, larger air tube, larger valve, larger plenum, stronger hammer. I believe there were only 407 R5's made, most in .30 caliber.

Black std lw 25 unchokd blank , I tried all weights and reg settings . the group I posted seems to be my best group so far , To get this group

I had used slug in start of this thread . however I modified the ammo and I put some rubber on barrel for harmonics and I placed a .040 plastic washer between tp and my barrel ..However I am going to be working on accuracy for heavier ammo .

MY goal is to group sub moa with 48 to 55 gr and I am not there yet , It seems like when I get to a certain grain the groups open . so harmonically something is off

As for Barrel harmonics have read that barrel tension has a lot to do with that. To that and I recently bought a torque wrench tightened mine to 95 inch pounds. Using a torque wrench to help me with repeatability. I've also read and aware of the differential between the temperature coefficients of expansion between the aluminum tube and the steel barrel. Therefore temperature increases should increase tension on the barrel and the converse is also true.

well I cant seem to shoot heavy ammo yet , ok here is what I wanted and where I am , I make 48 and 55 gr , I still cant get them to shoot well when I saw Michael's group , I decided to lighten up my ammo and I did and when I shot groups at 55 gr then the 48 , then lightened them 4 gr at a time and that was 36 grain group .

I am not sure why yet lighter bullets shoot better , harmonics or twist rate hmmm .

I know I have a Sako 22-250 I got many years ago , great gun out to 500 yards ,my groups at 100 always went threw 1 ragged hole , it sits in gun cabinet alot . Well last year I pulled it out and loaded up a few hundred rounds with most any bullet 45 to 55 grains , well I saw alot of new bullets were designed but were heavier so I grabbed a few types and reloaded them here was my results

ALL100 YD GROUPS with sako 22-250

45gr same hole

50 gr same hole

55 gain .2 inches

70 gr 3.4 in inches

80 gr vld 5.2 inches

80 gr hi bc 5.5 inches

now this was with a 1-14 twist , I re-barreled it with a 1-8 now it shoots 80gr one ragged hole @100 yards

I am not sure if airguns are affected like real guns yet but real guns it makes a huge difference heavier ammo needs faster twist rate to stablize

I always read that yes heavier needs faster twist but it’s due to the length of the bullet. Lots of the new solid copper bullets need a faster twist also because of the length vs a traditional bullet if the grains are the same. Thus in your above example your 14twist will shoot a 55grain bullet but try and shoot a 53vmax, a longer bullet, and it won’t be close to .2 inches. That’s why everyone had to go to a 12 twist to shoot it. That’s probably what is happening with your slugs, twist and length compatibility issues. Have to ask, did you go with an Ackley on the 250?
