If you bought a name brand compressor such as Bauer, Coltri, or Alkin you made the economically sound choice. You can use these brands of breathing air compressors for years and then sell one for most if not all of it's original cost. If you rent a nitrogen tank it is a non-refundable rental cost each year that will increase. If you add up tank rental fees, nitrogen refill fees, plus the cost of a tank regulator assembly, and compare those expenses to unlimited fills from a compressor it isn't economical. The compressor has residual value whereas the nitrogen rental fees are a sunk cost.
